The Head of Estimation is responsible for leading the estimation department, overseeing cost estimation for projects, and ensuring accurate and competitive bid proposals.
This role involves analyzing project requirements, developing cost estimates, managing estimation teams, and collaborating with various departments to optimize project feasibility and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy:
- Develop strategies to enhance estimation accuracy and competitiveness.
- Establish and maintain best practices, processes, and methodologies for cost estimation.
Cost Estimation & Bid Preparation:
- Develop comprehensive cost estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, and overheads.
- Ensure estimates align with market rates, supplier quotations, and project risks.
- Prepare competitive bid proposals and tender documents.
Risk Assessment & Cost Control:
- Develop risk mitigation strategies to optimize project feasibility.
- Collaborate with project managers to control costs throughout the project lifecycle.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Engage with suppliers, subcontractors, and stakeholders to obtain cost-effective solutions.
- Provide insights and recommendations to senior management for strategic decision-making.
Market Analysis & Continuous Improvement:
- Implement new technologies and software for enhanced estimation accuracy.
- Conduct post-project analysis to improve future estimation processes.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
A Masters degree is a plus.
Experience: 10+ years of experience in cost estimation, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies, materials, and labor costs.
- Knowledge of contract management and project scheduling.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Attention to detail and analytical mindset.
Work Environment & Reporting
Reports to: Director of Projects / Chief Operating Officer (COO).
Works closely with: Estimation Team, Procurement, Finance, Project Management, and Business Development.
Work location: Office-based with occasional site visits.
