VP-Supplier Manager

- Assist the 'Head of' to build / maintain a high performing, 'best in class' supplier management function.

- Responsible for ensuring supplier management in their team, the wider team and those relationships managed directly by themselves (typically strategic and group wide) are well managed and activities performed in line with all relevant BU and Group policies and governance.

- Responsible for ensuring ongoing supplier management and assurance activities across a portfolio of suppliers to help the Bank effectively manage performance, commercial value and risk in its supply chain.

- Manage senior stakeholders internally and externally.

- Primary point of contact for the relationship, for suppliers.

- Represent the function at forums/committees.

Strategic Planning and Implementation :

- Recognized internally as a Leader / Subject Matter Expert in Supplier Management strategy, its development & implementation.

- Is a key contributor to the development of the Supplier Management strategy (at group level), incorporating leading practice insights to achieve "Top Quartile" performance.

- Links successfully, the strategic direction of Supplier Management with the business areas and the suppliers, and understands the cause and effects of strategic change on each side and the relationships & lifecycle.

- Identified and priorities and selects Supplier Management projects, based on cost saving & value adding opportunities and / or potential operational efficiencies and translates Supplier Management strategy into departmental initiatives.

- Is accountable for the successful implementation and continuous improvement of the Supplier Management strategy, by monitoring the effects of internal and external factors on the strategy and managing the control framework around it.

- Promotes awareness of the Supplier Management strategy by ensuring its effective, consistent and clear communication.

- Develops departmental operating plans and budgets and manages resources including recruitment issues, headcount management and scheduling of resources to category teams.

- Works collaboratively with Supplier Management leadership and other business areas to clearly define boundaries, interactions and roles and responsibilities with Supplier Management.

Supplier Relationship Development :

- Recognized internally as a Subject Matter Expert in Supplier Relationship Development and drives the greatest value out of complex / strategic relationships.

- Shapes, leads and coaches others in securing investment and resources both internally and from suppliers and establishes mutually beneficial business relationships.

- Troubleshoots and improves supplier relationships and relationship development processes / initiatives / partnering models across the business by developing innovative ideas and concepts and benchmarks efforts for quality and sustainability.

- Implements and coaches on best in class Supplier Relationship Development techniques/programs to improve the quality of existing suppliers and the relationships with them.

- Is accountable for the strategic alignment of and key suppliers by establishing common goals and objectives.

- Manages the development of Supplier relationships for future requirements

Works collaboratively with Supplier Management and Group leadership to build and leverage different partnership models.

Supplier Performance Management :

- Recognized internally as a Subject Matter Expert on Supplier Performance Management and manages highly complex / strategic suppliers.

- Uses leading practice insights to improving the Supplier Evaluation process.

- Works collaboratively with the Supplier's leadership,companies leadership and other business areas to improve the quality of key supplier's performance by providing fact and metrics based feedback, educating suppliers and creating joint activities and value adding management initiatives.

- Shapes effective, meaningful and easy to use KPIs for use group wide.

- Designs and implements innovative score carding processes and is able to troubleshoot and develop resolution plans for supplier performance issues group wide.

- Uses leading practice insights to introduce supplier education schemes such as "supplier academies"

Contract / Service Management :

- Recognized internally as a subject matter expert on contract value delivery / service management and manages contracts for an individual high complexity product / service contract and has links to an external network to gather leading practice insights.

- Masters all the key elements of the contract value delivery / service management process to drive out further value from the product / service contract.

- Is skilled in articulating and interpreting accurately the legal language used within their product / service contract.

- Coaches others and helps to spread the use and knowledge of the contract value delivery / service management methodology across by providing insight and experience and can help trouble shoot the process, substantially improving its performance, quality and utility.

- Foresees potential contract / service disputes and develops action plans to prevent or minimize them.

- Judges accurately when the negotiation of outstanding claims has become non-productive and initiates litigation.

- Determines key factors for success within the delivery of contract value including the management of business, technical and commercial risk.

Risk and Issue Management :

- Recognized internally as a Subject Matter Expert in risk and issue management and has links to broader risk SME network externally and across company.

- Collaboratively works with Supplier Management / Supplier Management leadership and other business areas to shape risk management techniques and processes.

- Acts as a "Trouble shooter" and is called in to help resolve critical / complex risk and issue scenarios and develops the most appropriate risk management strategy to minimize business disruption and address business needs.

- Aware of best practices externally and gathers insights to inform internal risk management practices.

- Implements recommendations to enhance risk management techniques internally.

- Promotes the use of risk management techniques within Supplier Management by effectively coaching others and sharing their experiences.

- Able to train and coach colleagues on SSMP tools and processes.

Products and Service Knowledge :

- Achieves operational excellence by applying their knowledge of the value chain of a medium complexity product or service including its supply chain, business processes and cost levers and is able to influence and speak credibly to internal and external stakeholders using the correct industry terminology.

- Understands internal stakeholder / customer needs and can effectively communicate requirements to the supply base successfully supporting the alignment of business processes and strategy.

- Keeps proactively abreast of the latest market and industry trends and understands their effect on the value chain and business processes.

- Analyses consistently product / service financial cost structures and cost drivers and the impact key trends.

- Works very well with and communicates with product / service experts and internal and external cross-functional stakeholder teams.

Application of Supplier Management Processes, Tools, Systems :

- Achieves operational excellence by effectively applying their knowledge of Supplier Management processes, policies e.g. Sourcing and Supplier Management Policy (SSMP) and enabling tools / systems within their role, built up through experience and contacts with subject matter experts.

- Masters sufficiently the key elements of Supplier Management processes, policies and enabling tools / systems and guides others within company to promote a common way of working.

- Has detailed examples of when they have applied accurately the key processes relevant to their role and have documented the application as required.

- Influences other areas of the business on the benefits of following key Supplier Management processes and policies.

- Identifies and rectifies areas of non compliance / incorrect use of Supplier Management processes & policies aligned to their role and is also able to accurately judge when an application of a process / process step will not add any value .

Main duties and responsibilities :

Commerical Accountabilities :

Role is commercially biased therefore all elements of role profile highlighted under Job Purpose above are in effect commercial responsibilities. In addition to the commercial and leadership activities and responsibilities stated above the role will also require:

- Support to Head of Supplier Management, Supplier Managers, Service Managers, Accountable Executives and Sourcing Client leads;

- Support to Category Leads and Sourcing Managers with commercial engagement of key third party suppliers on behalf of companies executive;

- Supports Head of Supplier Management as point of escalation for issue resolution with any aspects of approach to Supplier Management;

- Ability to support review of supply chain processes and to aid mapping of E2E value streams. Work with key parts of supply chain to exploit commercial synergies and interdependencies; and

- Provide sourcing teams with support and input to negotiations with suppliers and chosen service providers, where required.

Leadership And Management Accountabilities :

- Support Head of Supplier Management in leading, the management and development of Supplier Managers to achieve high performance. Supporting the agreement of challenging performance and development objectives providing regular feedback and coaching to ensure performance is maximized and maintained.

- Where appropriate. ensure direct reports Personal Development Plans are complete, training plans executed, and that training effectiveness is monitored on an ongoing basis

- Where appropriate provide active leadership and support across the wider commercial community within the Bank to enable effective team performance

- Support and contribute to team building and team dynamics through personally demonstrating leadership and team attributes

- Establish appropriate policies e.g. Demand Management, Travel etc.

Person Requirements :

Qualifications :

- Preferably a degree caliber candidate with relevant qualifications

Experience required :

- Previous experience in Supplier Management and fluency at explaining it to any audience at any moment

- Track record in improving Supplier Management in a services related organization

- Expert in a variety of spend areas where dependence on effective Supplier Management are strongest

- Leadership experience with ability to demonstrate where to manage to outcomes without direct line accountability
