VP - Head of Wealth Settlement

Job Purpose

The role holder will be responsible for day to day running of up to 6 teams supporting the Operational trade settlement requirements of Stockbrokers, Gerrards Investment Managers and ….Private Bank clients. The team is responsible for the accurate and timely settlement of transactions in the International Central Securities Depositaries (ICSD's) including CREST and Euroclear; in addition to the vanilla EMEA settlements markets, and emerging markets.

This is achieved by monitoring various settlement systems on an exception-driven basis, liaising with brokers, agent banks, third party custodians and internal departments in order to resolve discrepancies and unmatched instructions. The team are also responsible for monitoring and managing fails, inventory management, analysing and resolving cash and stock positions and ensuring clients are not disadvantaged.

The role holder will oversee the performance of all the settlements teams to ensure they meet all market deadlines without incurring costs to the business of failed trades. They will act as the senior point of escalation from the B5 for complex, sensitive and high risk issues and will take steps where necessary to negotiate with internal and external parties to push through timely settlement. This will involve telephone and email contact with senior staff at counterparties and fund managers and will require lateral thinking and problem solving to find a mutually acceptable solution.

The role holder will provide ad hoc information to key stakeholders and will take responsibility for providing relevant management information (MI) to senior management and will use this information to predict trends and spikes in work volumes to plan the strategy and resourcing of their area. . In addition the role holder will build strong cross departmental relationships and ensure all risk and control functions are adhered to.

The role holder will lead and drive the identification of process improvements and synergies on an ongoing basis and will liaise with subject matter experts (SMEs) on project enhancement for existing and new markets and will monitor trends to make the processing of business more scaleable within their budgeted headcount. The role holder will have accountability for elements of their budget and will work with the business to meet any budgetary or headcount challenges without degradation to service.

- The role holder will oversee and guide appropriate performance management to ensure that each area within their control sets the performance bar and delivers to this standard on a consistent basis. They will ensure a pipeline of development of progressing staff and will continually review and eradicate any key person dependencies whilst overseeing robust succession planning throughout the department.

- The role holder will work with a number of key internal and external clients. These include the Front and Middle Offices, agent banks, clients, Clear stream and Crest

Technical Skills/Competencies Professional/technical experience

- The right candidate will be responsible for the day to day management up to six settlement teams covering a variety of fixed income products across domestic European markets. They will have an in-depth understanding of securities settlement and up to date technical knowledge. In addition, they will be capable of working independently and innovatively to identify and implement solutions to both processing and strategic problems, and have experience of running multiple teams in a high volume environment with multiple market deadlines.

Managerial experience

- The right candidate will have extensive experience of managing multiple teams. They will have excellent attention to detail with a high level of strategic vision. They will demonstrate a practical knowledge of the implementation and execution of all HR tasks including but not limited to, performance development, managing poor performance and managing attendance. They will have experience of developing succession and a strong management team, within which they will proactively drive team cohesion. The ideal candidate will create, prepare and control the management information related to the team and have the ability to interact and communicate with staff at all levels.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to lead the team while motivating and developing their direct reports and the wider group. The right candidate will demonstrate excellent commercial and risk awareness and be able to escalate potential issues to senior management when required.

Language skills

- The successful candidate will have an excellent command of the English language with strong written and verbal communication skills and possess the ability to communicate effectively at all levels. They will have the ability to negotiate and influence at very senior levels both technically and strategically with internal and external clients.

Personal attributes

- The successful candidate will have excellent influencing skills and the ability to solve problems effectively and creatively. They will manage their time and workload effectively and ensure that a quality output is delivered by themselves and their team in a timely manner to internal and external clients.
Experience, qualifications and other requirements specific to the role

Academic and professional qualifications

The successful candidate will have a high level of education including Higher grade and preferably be degree educated, or equivalent. Industry recognised qualifications are desirable. They will be up to date with market and sector developments.
