Vice President - Purchase (Chemical Manufacturing)

- Responsible for leading the development and implementation of strategic sourcing and provide strategic leadership across the department covering both National & International suppliers.


- This role is also responsible for identifying direct manufacturers and distributors and developing accountability through supplier agreements, scorecards, and competitive leverage.

Key Responsibilities :

- Leading the sourcing function (Import & Export) for the acquisition/distribution of chemical raw materials from national & international suppliers and creating roadmap for the sourcing strategy.

- Identification of suitable suppliers, key supplier management, due diligence / approval of suppliers and raw materials, negotiations, contracting, logistics and payment for the chemical material.

- Selects, evaluates, and manages vendor partnerships.

- Use vendor relationships along with data analytics to solve problems and achieve business goals.

- Develop sourcing policies, strategies and negotiate cost-effective and service favorable contracts.

- Develop and implement tools to hold suppliers accountable including but not limited to agreements, scorecards, and regularly scheduled reviews.

- Evaluating sourcing procedures and presenting improvement strategies to senior management for approval.

- Analyzing and calculating procurement costs and developing cost reduction strategies.

- Monitor and manage external/macro product situations, analyze potential cost impacts and lead supplier negotiations to minimize inflationary impacts.

- Collaborating with quality and demand planning teams to identify and pursue new supplier opportunities.

- Estimating risks and applying risk minimizing techniques, as well as negotiating contracts that comply with industry regulations.

- Maintaining strategic sourcing relationships and developing strong partnerships.

- Analyse supply and demand balance and trends to ensure efficient supply of chemical raw materials

- Compiling bid packages and issuing Request for Quotation (RFQ); receiving bids and preparing commercial bid summary to arrive at a purchasing strategy (SPOT / Contractual pricing)

- Application of negotiation levers - Managing Annual Rate contracts, Annual Maintenance Contracts, Supply contracts, risk and sustainability assessment, alternate source developments to meet the budget / target prices to bring in cost efficiencies.

- To maintain appropriate inventories (Min-Max levels) of raw materials for plants as well as a trading business

- Accountable to manage warehouse & logistic activities at optimum cost.

- Accountable to handle commodity bulk chemicals in liquidity and dry forms.

- Accountable to manage the import process & aligned legal proceedings.

Qualification & Experience:

i. BSc & MBA with Minimum 15 Plus Years of Experience in Chemical Manufacturing industry.

ii. Knowledge of basic chemical manufacturing processes and of the major factors that influence markets and prices for the major materials

iii. Expert in Technical Analysis; analyse price history - predict price movements and RM procurement based on market intelligence.

iv. Knowledge of industry trends, prominent suppliers, industry procurement strategies and levers

v. Knowledge of Port Pricing; understanding of the legal requirements and sensitivity of commercial contract law

vi. Negotiation Skill

vii. Strong Interpersonal & Communication Skill

viii. Assertiveness; Ability to organize diverse information, analyse and resolve disputes, understand internal customer requirements, and make independent decisions
