Overall Purpose Of Role

Lead and manage a team of application developers working on multiple different applications and technology stacks, focusing on delighting and exceeding stakeholders with quality and timeliness of software deliverables.

In parallel continuously improve application engineering and development capability and contributing to the wider Payments Engineering & Development leadership team goals.

Key Accountabilities :

- Accountability for the delivery of all application change (to agreed time, quality, cost, and functionality) for one or more complex large products/applications

- Effectively manage and develop a large team including work assignment, personal development, and career planning

- Ensuring skills levels are continually improving through coaching, mentoring and identification of training needs

- Accountable for all supply and demand of work into your large development team, which includes managing both Barclays resources and SI partners / third party suppliers

- Accountability for through the implementation of automation, technical agility and DevOps to improve the efficiency of your application team

- Accountable for promoting proactive remedial strategies to prevent future system problems and to improve the quality of delivered systems

- Accountable for the delivery of product roadmaps for future direction of the products or platforms

- Recognised as the key point of contact for the applications under development, drawing on all relevant Subject Matter Experts as required

Stakeholder Management & Leadership

Collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders across the whole lifecycle to ensure that collective delivery goals are achieved, including but not limited to:

- Programme Managers

- Project Managers

- Solution Architects

- Test Managers

- Service Management

In addition work directly with the Head of Engineering & Development, peers on the leadership team and colleagues in the Corporate Technology Core Engineering team to innovate development practices and tooling

Decision-making & Problem Solving

Detailed analysis skills and data-driven decision-making are required to ensure the quality of delivery plans, resource optimisation, and continuous improvement prioritisation & implementation.

Risk & Control Objective :

Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards

Person Specification :

- Experience of leading and managing development teams producing high-quality software deliverables for business critical, high availability and secure applications is essential.

- Ideally experience will have been gained through the use of more than one technology stack.

- Deep knowledge of Dev Ops principles, practices and tools and practical experience of moving services to the Cloud from a software engineering perspective are highly desirable.
