Vice Chancellor - Leading Engineering University

Our client is looking for VC role who will be reporting to Chancellor & Board of Governors. The person will be working for a well-known and one among the top University, Received several awards and research focus University. They are also consulting Big4 for transformation of the University at all levels to improve quality excellence.

Role Summary :

- The Vice-Chancellor is the academic and administration head of the University, providing institutional leadership and oversight, driving the mission, strategies and advancement of the University and acting as the principal ambassador and the chief representative of the University.

- The Vice Chancellor is part of the leadership team of the University and coordinates with the academic, academic-related and non-academic units of the University. As part of the leadership team, the Vice Chancellor provides the executive leadership along with the Chancellor and be part in the overall planning, organizing, and controlling of the academic program & non-academic areas.

- He will be responsible to develop and plan institutional and academic programs, budgeting and resource allocation; supervises staff development programs; monitors personnel actions and transactions; and participates in academic personnel policy development and negotiation. Long term planning for the university; Positioning of the university; Achieve rankings in various ranking frameworks.

Key Responsibilities :

Administrative :

- Be part of the leadership team of the University and lead the activities and execute the objectives of the University and the management

- Responsible to process disciplinary action, whenever needed, against the faculty, Technical/ Admin. Staff or students of the University as per rules and as per Statutes

- Oversee the development and implementation of the Universitys comprehensive institutional plan

- Lead the executive leadership team in the effective and responsible operation of the University and the use of University resources, focusing on operational excellence and effective fiscal performance

- Advocate for the University and foster effective and ongoing dialogues within all levels of government, including with respect to funding grants and the Universitys research enterprise

- Implement, hold accountable and be part of the key strategic initiatives of the University

- Coordinate between the Pro VC / Dean / Directors / Academic heads of the department and the Chancellor on various functions of the University including but not limited to:

- Academics (Pedagogy, Program launch, Learning aids etc.)

- Research (Research areas, Grants and Funds etc.)

- Performance / Outcomes (Graduation outcomes, Research outcomes etc.)

- Faculty affairs

- Student affairs

- All non-academic functions (admissions, placement, marketing etc.)

- Directly oversee and monitor the academic, teaching, research and the student experience outcomes across the University and present the progress to the University management

- Oversee the Admissions activities and advise on strategies to attract quality students, both from India as well as abroad

- Be part as a key member of the following key committees of the University and contribute as per requirement / agenda (Inputs on technical / academic / research which will help in strategic decision making):

- Board of Governors Voting member

- Board of Management - Chairperson

- Academic Council Chairperson

- Finance Committee - Member

- Research and Innovation Council - Chairperson

- Responsible for annual budgeting and planning exercise of the University and provide inputs / guide the directors / dean of various departments / schools; allocate and reallocate funds and resources (personnel, space, etc.) as appropriate to/from academic and academic-related cost centers

- Bring in new ideas and implement measures / activities leading to better outcomes, ranking, accreditation etc.

- Protect and enhance the overall reputation of the University

- Make connections between research, industry and the community at large

- Establish and enhance provincial, national, and international collaborations

- Develop strategies for building a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship; assist in scaling up the Technology Business Incubator into a more efficient and comprehensive entrepreneurial support platform

- Develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including the Board, the faculty, students, staff and alumni, community leaders, granting agencies, other educational institutions, and officials in all levels of government

- Be lead member of the execution / implementation of key strategic and operational activities of the University and present the performance / progress to the Chancellor and Board of Governors periodically

- Preside all the University events

- To apply for and ensure universitys membership in institutions like Association of Indian Universities, Association of International Universities, India International Centre etc.

- Ensure compliance of the directives of the State Government, if any, and the provisions of the Act, Statutes and Regulations of the University are strictly observed

Academics & Research:

- Provide leadership in all academic matters; initiates, participates in and supervises academic planning; oversees academic program reviews and curriculum development

- Implement & monitor globally relevant curriculum, pedagogy, academic delivery, evaluation and follow-up of the same through appropriate control processes.

- Ensure to achieve academic performance of the University as per the objective

- Review key academic / research requirement raised by the Deans / Directors; Evaluate and provide suitable recommendation to the management

- Develop and implement strategies to effectively integrate the Universitys advancement program with its academic goals and activities

- Collaborate with academicians & advisors for reviewing the course structure, curriculum, course handouts, session plans, evaluations, analysis of results, remedial programs and revisions in any of the above

- Implement value addition programs for the holistic development of students with a particular focus on enhancing their placement potential and readiness for higher studies

- Coordinate with the Pro VC/ Dean / Directors of Faculty / Schools in introduction of innovative teaching methodologies, improving the academic outcomes in the University

- Lead & implement the academic interest of the Board of Governors

- Ensure all the academic regulations provided by UGC, AICTE, State Government, BCI, MCI and other regulatory bodies are followed in the University

- Monitor the academic performance of each school, suggest plans and take actions for improvement including parameters such as graduation outcomes, placements etc.

- Coordinate with the Pro VC / Dean / Director of Research and give ideas in preparation of the research strategy and plan for the University

- Be an active member of the research proposal evaluation committee to ensure focused research activities and outcomes

- Suggest strategy & assist in tapping the government and industry funds for research using network

- Understand and assist in setting up the infrastructure and resource requirement for research initiatives

- Monitor the research outcomes of the University and present to the management

People Excellence :

- Lead in monitoring and evaluating performance of the faculty towards achieving academic excellence

- Suggest suitable FDPs, training programs and workshops for faculty to enhance the knowledge capital and delivery

- Attract and build a high performing team demonstrating key accountability through consistent mentoring, coaching and encouraging cross functional collaboration with a strong focus of retaining high potential talent

- Institutionalize strong goal-oriented performance culture, with robust checks and balances and address non -performance promptly

- Ensure performance evaluation and appraisal for academic staff is in consonance with regulations given by UGC and other regulatory authorities

- Develop plans and propose to the Board of Governors for attracting high achieving academic talent to the Uuniversity and design rewarding schemes to retain them

Branding and Positioning :

- Encouraging and driving the promotion of intellectual capital through participation in conferences, seminars, paper publications and any other events organized by academic forums

- Responsible for maintaining professional and ethical standards of conduct that reflect best- in- class professional practices of the University Brand

- Represent University in key external meetings, conferences etc. and establish University as a Thought Leader

Culture and Internal Processes :

- Responsible for driving the initiatives towards building a culture of inclusiveness reflecting mutual respect and upholding diversity

- Ensure the implementation of a strong internal control and quality processes for internal administration leading to academic excellence and operational effectiveness.

- Advise the promoter group on planning and development of the University, particularly in respect of the norms and standards of education to be followed, teaching and research in the University and ensure compliance of the same.

- Being a key member in all the Internal Statutory Bodies. Proposing constructive initiatives/policies that have a bearing on furthering the vision and objectives of the university

- Responsible for compliance to all State Government, UGC and other statutory and regulatory requirements as applicable to the University and the laws of land

- Undertake other duties as may be assigned by the Management from time to time
