Mandi Lead - Marketplace Business (Equivalent to Category Lead/City CEO)


Vegrow focuses on matchmaking across demand and supply for fruits, aggregating multiple channels (wholesalers/semi-wholesalers, modern trade, and general trade) in 100 cities on the demand side and 30,000+ farmers on the supply side. Through its unique community advisory approach, Vegrow digitally engages with farmers across 400+ production pockets and helps them align with market expectations and get better yield, thereby higher income. It processes more than 400 tons of fruits daily.

The company has grown significantly in the last 12 months with industry leading gross margins of ~20%.The growth has been unlocked on the back of its deep tech and data stack across the value chain. It has built capabilities to harness farmer chatter, estimate farmland produce and measure demand across Tier-I, Tier-II and Tier-III markets.

Vegrow founders are extremely passionate about Agri-domain and come from a very strong pedigree of IITs and have a rich corporate and start-up experience along with domain expertise owing to their stint in ITC, Urban Company, AgroStar and Chronus. It is a fast-growing company and has scaled to over 450-member young and passionate team with a very strong leadership who are ex-entrepreneurs with a blend of Agri & non-Agri expertise coming from successful organisations viz. Godrej, Reliance, ITC, Microsoft etc.

The company has raised US$46M in its Series C primary and secondary funding in January 2024. This new funding round has been led by GIC, Singapore's sovereign wealth fund, with significant participation from existing investor Prosus Ventures and continued support from Matrix Partners India, Elevation Capital, and Lightspeed.

ROLE : Source Mandi Lead- Marketplace Business (Equivalent to a City CEO rolewith e2e P&L)

LOCATION : Multiple Locations

Role Overview:

The Source Mandi Lead will be responsible for the overall strategy, management and growth of a specific Mandi within our overall Mandi business. This is a P&L management role that requires a combination of skills: strategic planning, supply management, Demand generation, and a deep understanding of market and customer preferences. The ideal candidate is an independent leader who has the ability to manage end-to-end business operations, plan and execute 0 to 1 scale up and create predictable profit pools.

Key Responsibilities:

- Develop and implement strategy to drive supply and demand within a particular mandi and increase the market share.

- Understand local Supply and Demand trends and competitor activities. Use insights to form appropriate plans to leverage the inputs for growth opportunities.

- Identify revenue & cost-saving opportunities for maximizing profits.

- Work with cross functional teams like Supply Chain, Finance, Credit teams to optimize costs and enhance revenue.

- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and quality of produce and experience to the customers.

- Implement and monitor KPIs to measure operational performance and identify areas for improvement.

- Leverage technology and innovation to streamline operations and improve service delivery.

- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.

- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.

What We are Looking For:

- Graduate/MBA from Tier 1 institutions with 6-8 yrs of experience into pure play P&L/Category management roles with an end-to end responsibility and in a fast paced setup.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions.

- Should have managed operations, with a track record of bringing processes efficiency.

- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

- Proven track record of driving sales growth and profitability.

- Excellent stakeholder management skills
