About the Job:
- Responsible for the driving, managing, and reporting all daily operational activities of both the kilns in the Sponge Iron Unit (SIU).
- The individual must ensure smooth plant operations and must have a deep understanding of Sponge Iron Unit planning, operations, and maintenance.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Plant Operations:
- Execute the scheduled daily production plan and ensure that the daily production targets are met without compromising plant equipment health and finished goods quality, thus ensuring optimal efficiency, productivity, and profitability.
- Ensure that all operations activities performed in the SIU work areas adhere to the operational policies and procedures and are compliant with all regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Report and rectify any deviances identified.
- Track the daily operations and overall plant performance of both kilns to ensure adherence to qualitative & quantitative production targets as well as to identify areas of improvement to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve reliability and recommend the same to relevant stakeholders.
- Manage and lead a team of managers, engineers, technicians, and operators to ensure all activities, including data capturing & recording are performed safely, effectively, and as per departmental SOPs.
- Review the raw material quality tests and recommend relevant changes in material consumption schedules to the senior management.
- Review the quality tests performed for all finished goods to ensure adherence with the production plan.
- Ensure that the entire operations workforce is trained, equipped, and supervised appropriately to carry out their duties effectively.
- Conduct daily visits across the plant to observe, validate, and rectify process deviances and abnormalities.
- Work closely with the Operation Excellence team as well as the PM-CBM team to ensure the health and efficiency of all equipment and machinery and that all regulatory and departmental SOPs are being adhered to.
- Ensure that the periodic maintenance schedules as well as planned shutdown activities of both kiln areas, machinery, and equipment are performed properly and as per schedule to ensure minimum breakdown and shutdown events.
- Ensure all activities are performed as per departmental SOPs and procedures, and appropriately documented for reporting.
General Management:
- Ensure that the planned skills and knowledge development training programs are delivered for workforce improvement.
- Ensure all kiln operations data is accurately captured and maintained on dedicated internal systems as per departmental SOPs.
- Receive and collate the daily kiln operations data sets and review the same prior to the daily review meetings (DRMs) to validate adherence to production plan, identify deviances, assess root causes of the same, and develop action plans to eliminate/resolve them.
- Prepare the data sets as per departmental review templates and share the same along with recommended action plans with DGM Process (SIU) for validation and presentation at relevant meetings.
- Support the DGM Process (SIU) and AVP SIU with presenting the daily kiln operations at the regular DRM, CRM, MAT and SCM events and justify the deviances and justify the same as and how required.
- Maintain a safe working environment, ensuring that all employees are trained in safety protocols and that all equipment is properly maintained.
- Perform any additional tasks as requested by top management.
Requirements and Skills:
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelors in Mechanical, Chemical, or Production Engineering from a reputable institute.
Desired Experience:
05+ years of experience in steel plant operations, preferably in Sponge Iron plant.
- 01+ years of leadership role.
Functional Skills:
- Deep understanding of SIU operations and maintenance.
- Proven track record of driving process improvement and conducting Root Cause Analysis.
- Proven track record of successful plant management and operational excellence.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and policies.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
