Industrial relations and Compliance officer

- Responsibilities include ensuring the company complies with its outside regulatory requirements and internal policies with respect to labour and other aspects of HR.

- May also design or update internal policies to mitigate the risk of the company breaking laws and regulations, and lead internal audits of procedures.

- Must be proficient in labour laws and compliance process in India and Asia Pacific. Should have the ability to learn the laws for global locations.

- Ability to draft contracts, agreements, offer letters, appointment letters for all locations.

- Interact with local labour attorneys and come up with a compliance documents, policies and employee handbooks for all locations.

- Provide advice to the management on local labour regulations in all countries and come up with advice on changes to the local scenario.

- Frequently travel to all locations where there are labour issues and should have the ability to meet Labour authorities, attend labour and civil courts and close the issues.

- Must have a thorough knowledge of the company and an awareness where possible regulatory breaches may occur. It is essential that the person effectively communicates the company's key ethics principles and compliance regulations.

- Organize regular training sessions for employees to communicate key regulatory changes and updates; this is particularly important in a heightened regulatory environment where change is consistent.

- Must work with business units, support functions, and management to ensure appropriate contingency plans are in place that set guidelines on how to respond to a possible compliance breach.

- In the event of a regulatory breach occurring, it is important to have appropriate disciplinary measures in place to avoid a future recurrence.

- Ensure compliance procedures are continually monitored and reviewed to help identify possible areas where improvements could be made.

- Expected to provide an objective view of company policies.

- Should not get Influenced by other employees, including management and executives, to overlook infractions which may result in significant fines or sanctions and reputational damage that may lead to financial loss or even business closure.

- Requires a unique skill set to ensure a company's operations fully comply with labor regulations and procedures.

- Should possess high ethical standards and honesty as he/she is responsible for ensuring that the company adheres to required labor and industrial regulations.

- Should have polished people skills and work well with colleagues; also ensure appealing colleagues must not take precedence over a company's regulations being met.

- Need to be reliable, show commitment and unity in relation to a company's regulations and procedures; it is crucial they demonstrate this to colleagues, leading by example.

- Must have strong attention to detail; they need the ability to notice actions that may result in a liability.
