Position Title : Team Manager JG5- Manage Direct Tax

Job Grade: 5

Position Responsibilities :

The role is designed for supporting and leading the delivery of activities carried out by the Manage Direct Tax team. It involves both people management and individual contributor responsibilities as a reviewer & preparation of tax returns of certain material legal entities. It also provides a very good exposure towards stakeholder management as well as Direct tax compliance and Group reporting.

More specifically, the accountabilities include the following -

Business/process responsibilities and metrics :

Deliver on time and accurate tax reports, returns and payments for migrated activity and tax provision for all businesses in various tax jurisdictions [Countries] and adherence to the managerial metrics of the process;

Understand and operate various tax provisioning/compliance tools;

Understand Group Accounting and Reporting changes and enable incorporation of such changes and in the process as may be relevant;

Coordinate/support for tax audits as well as support for resolving all audit queries;

Provide steer and oversight for updation and maintenance of Key tax assumptions and Work Instructions & Training framework to reduce time to delivery to optimal levels (typically 3 months);

Lead and manage and transition additional/new scope migrations of MDT activities.

Team management, engagement planning and resourcing :

Support continuous professional development and good practices in MDT;

Proactively engage with Business and Country tax teams to enable business knowledge sharing with the MDT team and help embed into processes as relevant;

Keeps abreast of Business developments and Business performance drivers;

Support in ensuring clear roles and responsibilities and compliance with segregation of duties/authorities across team;

Planning of staffing vis-a-vis work assignments/projects/cross team projects etc in an optimal manner and evaluate resourcing requirements on an ongoing basis.

CI responsibilities:

Continuous focus on improvement opportunities (ESSA) in process & content, identify & actions opportunities to reduce complexity, promote best practices, provide focus on financial issues & achieve operational excellence;

Pursue identification & implementation of CI project pipeline and aid in achieving the process targets.

- People and stakeholder management:

Ensure correct and timely escalations of process exceptions or tolerance/variances and their resolution;

Proactively engage and maintain strong stakeholder and business connectivity;

Manage small teams operationally/functionally.

Key Competences required :

Description:

Direct Taxation Knowledge :

- Has a demonstrative understanding of corporate income/property/employment tax (as appropriate) solutions.

- Understands the relevant rules around compliance, including filing and reporting requirements.

- Has working knowledge of financial and tax accounting principles, including the latest Group and International standards and GAAP

Process and Data Management Knowledge

- Enthusiastic and proactive at engaging with colleagues on the power of metrics based disciplined operations, Continuous Improvement and Data Quality Assurance to drive Operational Excellence across E2E processes.

- Understands basics of Process and Data thinking and Continuous Improvement techniques and is able to advise colleagues on those.

- Manages day to day operations of a sub-process covering one or more location, system and/or organization (including staffing, competence and performance management).

- Knows and uses the design and Standard Operating Procedures of the process they operate.

- Understands how their work and actions drive the E2E process and data performance.

- Leads effectively Process Performance reviews or Visual Management sessions for own area of responsibility.

- Proactively shares experiences (successful or not) to create an environment where Operational Excellence is valued and rewarded.

Governance and Assurance Knowledge

- Understands in broad terms the governance (organization, roles, relationships, processes, standards) of own business area.

- Has a working knowledge of the main requirements of the Shell Control Framework and can advise on Shell's incident reporting requirements.

- Defines and maintains manual of authorities for specific business area/legal entities.

- Manages specific assurance activities in support of management's self-assessment, understands the relationships to the business objectives and associated risks.

Business Performance Management Knowledge

- Understand that value creation (cash focus) within certain (risk) boundary conditions is the purpose of performance management.

- Articulate the rationale of current strategies based on the external and competitive environment. Knows the Group Scenarios and the role they play in development of strategy.

- Understand the purpose and key elements of the various planning processes (strategic, target setting and budgeting) at a country, business unit or Function level, and understands the relevant interfaces with the Group, other

Businesses and Functions.

- Understand the process, organisation and systems that deliver Management Information. Uses MI to analyse business results, identifies internal and external performance factors, as well as potential improvement opportunities.

- Aware of the key value drivers that drive performance improvement, including sales, working capital management (stocks, receivables and payables), cost, operational availability, and can describe the associated risks.

- Understand the key concepts of portfolio management, including organic and inorganic investments and divestments

Business Partnering Knowledge

- Keen understanding of key business drivers, current business priorities and critical issues of the Shell Business(es)/Function(s) with which they are involved.

- Articulates the value-add of Finance to the Business/Function.

- Practises effective advocacy and inquiry, uncovering implicit issues/needs.

- Delivers on promises.

- Knowledge of various influencing styles and impact of self in interpersonal relationships.

- Has understanding of critical relationships within business and function and whom to engage in various situations.

Position Requirements :

- Working knowledge of various ERP systems used in Shell Group and excellent MS Office skills.

- Good understanding of Control Frameworks, controls in a tax environment and tax accounting under GAAP and/or IFRS.

- Effective influencing skills and communicator of complex tax compliance issues; both written and oral.
