Role Summary :
This individual is responsible for buying merchandize for a category. He/she needs to create the merchandizing plan for the year for the category based on the overall sales target. This role is also in charge of the layout of new stores in terms of placement/area allotted to different brands and categories. He/she would also oversee private label creation and management. For the purpose of buying, he/she needs to liaise with vendors externally and with the logistics and operations team internally.
Responsibilities :
Merchandise Planning :
- Plan merchandizing for own category basis overall numbers set
- Support Buying Head in margin achievement by minimizing cost of buying
Monitor inventory on hand and devise ways of sell through of stock.
Promotions :
- Activate products through price/placement based promotion activities
- Drive volume sales of products through promotion basis inventory age, etc.
- Work with the Head, Buying to design promotions.
Product Development :
- Identify opportunities for product development
- Design and manufacture new products through appropriate vendors at the right prices
- Ensure an ideal mix of private label items along with other brands to obtain the right margin delivery.
New Store Planning :
- Support Head, Buying in layout planning for a new store and periodic re-planning basis sales performance and other factors.
- Allocate space for different items within own category in a particular store.
Vendor Management :
- Maintaining strong ties with all vendors to ensure availability of product at the best prices
- Negotiate prices to the right level to contribute towards margin management
- Support the Head in evaluating new vendors
- Assess existing vendors and provide inputs to the Head for proper vendor management/renewal
