Job Description :
The Global Institutional Product Strategy and Research Team is a central strategic research unit for product, competitive landscape, and industry intelligence and trends. The team enables data-driven, strategic business decision-making and facilitates tactical research (leveraging external databases and independent research) to position SSGA's investment capabilities commercially.
In this role, you will be responsible for providing objective assessments of the commercial positioning of the firm's institutional product set globally. You will support our business goals by providing timely and accurate industry intelligence information, developing advanced strategy analytics, and identifying product threats and opportunities.
In addition to collaborating with multiple business divisions within the firm on ad hoc requests, you will help prepare marketable insights and dashboards detailing the investment performance, asset flows, and marketability of SSGA's products versus peers. You will make informed observations about product positioning (strengths/weaknesses) and present to broad audiences, including senior management, portfolio strategists, product management, and the client-facing organization.
Some of the tasks you will be responsible for :
Product Strategy :
- Collaborate with Portfolio Strategists and Asset Class CIOs to conduct competitive analysis and market-sizing research for SSGA's investment capabilities, emphasizing SSGA's focus products.
- Collaborate with Institutional Product team on product development and innovation initiatives; market share, gap analysis, product due diligence, and competitive landscape towards meeting regional sales targets and goals
- Accelerate sales process through competitive tactical analysis on active and index-based SSGA focus products with the main focus of strengthening commercialization and enablement efforts
Industry Intelligence & Business Strategy :
- Support CIO Office, Corporate Strategy, and Senior Management with regular industry AUM and flows analysis, emphasizing SSGA's investment capability areas.
- Provide regular and tactical updates to global client-facing organizations on industry trends, product launches, and competitive intelligence about SSGA focus products.
- Collaborate with other cross-functional team members ( finance, sales, performance, etc.) in developing and managing Quarterly Business Review reporting.
Desired skills & knowledge :
- Strong analytical and market research ability with experience or proven interest in investment products data analytics,
- Ability to effectively liaise with cross-functional teams and use data to build structured insights supporting market activities and internal product priorities
- Intellectual curiosity and the ability to think independently and innovatively on new projects. Be comfortable and flexible in an ever-changing environment that is subject to shifting priorities and workloads
- Degree and professional designations in disciplines requiring a quantitative skillset
- Minimum 3-4 years in the investment management industry with good knowledge of broad asset classes and different product vehicles. Experience in Fixed Income products/sectors is desirable but not necessary.
- Interest in growing ESG landscape and regulations impacting product launches
- CFA or progress towards CFA and continual advancement in data analytics and investment management.
- Experience with one of the following - FactSet, eVestment, Morningstar Direct - and ability to learn the other systems quickly
- Fluency with Tableau or similar data visualization software is desirable but not necessary
