Job Description :
One of the largest global insurers is seeking a Senior Research Scientist to join the Analytics Center of Excellence. Interested individual will join a dynamic research and development team comprising of people with diverse background, such as natural hazards, engineering, flood modeling, atmospheric sciences, etc. The position requires the development of quantitative models for natural hazard risk management. The focus will be on emerging perils that do not have a well established industry solution, hence would require a combination of creative thinking, strong quantitative skills and ability to work with complex data sources. Individual should have a broad spectrum of knowledge in at least one of the following natural perils - flood, earthquake, hurricanes, tornado/hail, tsunami, storm surge. Individual should also have a solid experience with RiskLink and CLASIC/2 modeling environments. This position will report to the Director of Research and Development in the Analytics Center of Excellence.
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct research and develop quantitative models for natural hazard risk management
- Update internal natural hazard related datasets/models and related risk management tools
- Ability to work with large climate datasets, hydrological data, flood maps, digital elevation and satellite data
- Develop GIS based insurance applications for risk management, underwriting risk selection/pricing and monitoring
- Develop analytical and quantitative solutions to improve underwriting profitability of profit centers
- Perform sensitivity testing in RiskLink and CLASIC/2 to gain a better understanding of RMS and AIR models and also to better understand the model changes
- Perform claims data analysis to understand model deficiencies, estimate model adjustment factors, and develop best practices for non-modeled risks
Position Requirements
- Ph.D./Masters in Civil Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related discipline
- Strong background in probability and statistics
- Minimum 4 years experience in research and modeling of natural catastrophes and RiskLink and CLASIC/2 modeling environments
- Strong programming and mapping skills, including GIS, SQL, Python, Matlab
- Excellent analytical, writing, communication, and organizational skills
