Sr Engineering Manager - Consumer Internet

Our Client which is a VC backed High-growth Consumer Internet venture provides information & tools to help people decide which gadget to buy and where to buy it from.

They are visited by over 5 million gadget enthusiasts every month, and ranks among the top 300 websites in India. They have a team of 40 people based in their offices in Gurgaon (HO) and Chennai.

They work with most of the leading electronics & telecom brands (Samsung, Nokia, Micromax, Airtel, etc.), as well as leading eTailers (eBay, Amazon, Flipkart, etc.), to provide them with innovative ways to reach gadget enthusiast community, to promote their products & offers.

Studies show that 40% of all gadgets sold are researched online before purchase. Their mission is to become the starting point & the best source for this research, in India and abroad.

Senior Engineering manager Role:

They are looking someone with strong expertise and interest in software engineering to come on board as part of the engineering core team, and contribute to the effort to become the #1 research site for electronics. All other functions in the company revolve around this mission.

This role will make you the #2 in their tech team:

Roles & Responsibilities:

- Manage a team of developers (10 - 15). Provide career-advancing feedback and mentor the team

- Provide technical leadership on specific projects in terms of architecture and planning.

- Work closely with product and business team to understand and translate the business requirements.

- Work closely with designers, content team and marketing team to reduce bottlenecks and dependencies faced by the developers.

- Make sure the timelines/deliverables are achieved with efficiency.

- Maintaining a level of brilliance & intensity in the company's development efforts

- Doing regular code reviews, and ensure maintenance of clean code and architecture

- Manage the codebase and release cycles. Work closely with QC to ensure quality of the output.

- Work closely with CTO/VP-technology and the devops team to ensure site uptime / performance / security / backup

- Setup best practices for development and releases.

- Work closely with ad operations team to ensure the ad delivery is timely and as promised.

- Work closely with affiliate team to ensure the tracking/reporting is as expected.

- Provide on-board training to the freshers about their platform and the technologies used.

- From time-to-time, you might be required to research new technologies and help the team to deploy it wherever applicable.

Requirements - Professional & Academic:

- Strong expertise in PHP, MySQL and Linux

- Good working knowledge of NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Neo4j) and in-memory data stores (Memcached, Redis)

- Solid Knowledge about data structures and strong sense for algorithms and problem solving

- Plenty of experience in building responsive web applications and robust backend platforms

- Experience in full-text search technologies such as SOLR & Elastic Search would be an added plus

- Bachelor's degree from a top engineering college

Desired Skills & Traits:

- Atleast 8 years of experience

- Ability to establish respect and rapport with the engineering time quickly.

- Good people skills and project management skills.

- Ability to work with cross-functional team and set & manage expectations.

- Love for coding and technology, desire to learn new technologies

- Discipline to quality standards and targets; flair for high performance and scalable code

- Working knowledge of mobile platforms

- Good communication skills

- Good judgment to juggle between quick-fixes and long-term solutions.
