Customers make a small initial payment for a high-quality solar PV system and then pay for the energy service, topping up their systems in small user-defined increments using a mobile phone. Each payment for energy also adds towards the final purchase price. Once fully paid, the system unlocks permanently and delivers free solar energy. The innovative pricing model is called Progressive Purchase, and Simpa is already live with customers in Karnataka, India. The business model is disruptive and highly scalable, re-imagining the value chain for delivering energy access at the base of the economic pyramid.

Responsibilities

- The Senior Accounting Manager will be responsible for the accounting, reporting and tax functions of Simpa Energy India Pvt Ltd (a wholly owned subsidiary of Simpa Networks, US). The position will report to the VP, Finance and will be responsible for ensuring robust accounting controls, accounting quality and tax compliance.

Some important duties that will be assigned to the person will include, but are not limited to the following:

- Oversee the general accounting function, cash management/reconciliation and tax compliance.

- Accountable for ensuring that policies and procedures (internal controls) are in place to provide reasonable assurance that the company assets are protected.

- Support the sales and operations teams from an accounting standpoint to achieve their business objectives.

- Prepare monthly financial statements for Simpa India and Simpa US.

- Oversee the reconciliation of physical inventory with accounting systems.

- Oversee preparation of salary statements & Disbursements of salary.

- Conduct bank account reconciliation.

- Ensure compliance with all Indirect tax (VAT, Service Tax, Excise, Shops & Est), Direct Tax and Labour law regulations.

- Primary responsibility for interacting with statutory/tax auditors and ensuring smooth completion of audits.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Commerce is required.

- Chartered Accountant qualification is required.

- At least 6+ years’ experience in the accounting function and 3+ years of experience in handling the audit and tax compliance of a company or public accounting firm.

- Highly proficient with Excel and Tally ERP. Knowledge of other ERP software is desirable but not required.

- Experience in working in the accounting function of micro-finance or other industries which have geographically distributed operations will be highly advantageous.

- Familiarity with US GAAP will be advantageous.

- High levels of integrity and willingness to work collaboratively.

- Experience in fast moving entrepreneurial organizations is preferable.

- Demonstrated fluency in Kannada, Hindi and English.
