IT/OT Solution Architect/Industrial Automation Expert

Overview

A technical expert in industrial automation systems and OT (Operational Technology) platforms. The ideal candidate will play a key role in designing and implementing IT and OT systems, guiding technical decision-making processes, and ensuring the integration of historian systems with cloud platforms. Working closely with the Head of IT and other stakeholders, this role will provide strategic direction and ensure the seamless operation of automation and historian systems across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture Design & Setup

- Lead the design and implementation of both IT and OT architecture, focusing on scalability, security, and efficiency.

- Develop architecture frameworks that integrate industrial automation systems (e.g., PLCs, HMIs, sensors) with IT infrastructure.

- Oversee the setup and configuration of infrastructure components (servers, networks, storage) to support historian and automation systems.

Technical Expertise and Experience

- Industrial Automation Systems: Provide expertise in industrial automation protocols (e.g., Modbus, OPC-UA, DNP3) and hardware (PLCs, HMIs, sensors), ensuring efficient system integration and configuration.

- OT Platforms and Technologies: Lead the deployment and management of OT platforms (e.g., Wonderware, Rockwell Automation, Siemens) and systems (SCADA, DCS, MES) that support industrial processes.

- Historian Systems: Configure, manage, and scale historian software (e.g., PI System, Historian Server), ensuring accurate data collection and analysis capabilities.

- Cloud Platforms: Leverage cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP) for hosting and scaling OT systems, including historian solutions for large-scale data processing and storage.

Project Management and Execution

- OT System Selection: Evaluate and select OT systems based on business requirements, scalability, and integration with existing systems.

- Data Integration: Ensure seamless integration of historian systems with OT platforms and data sources to enable real-time data visibility and reporting.

- Scaling Strategies: Develop and implement strategies to scale historian systems, ensuring they meet growing data volumes and user demands.

Data Governance and Management

- Data Quality and Accuracy: Implement and monitor data governance measures to ensure the quality, consistency, and accuracy of data within historian systems.

- Data Security: Establish and enforce security protocols to protect sensitive OT data and maintain compliance with industry standards.

- Data Retention Policies: Define and manage data retention strategies, ensuring data archiving and purging policies are followed.

Strategic Guidance

- Collaborate with the Head of IT to provide strategic direction for IT and OT system design, architecture, and technological advancements.

- Ensure alignment of OT infrastructure with broader organizational IT strategies, contributing to overall system scalability and efficiency.

Stakeholder Management

- Collaboration: Work closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to understand their requirements, ensuring that IT and OT systems meet operational needs.

- Communication: Effectively communicate technical concepts, system status, and project progress to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

- Change Management: Lead the change management process for OT systems, ensuring smooth adoption and minimal disruption to end users.

Solution Documentation and Risk Management

- Document architecture designs, system configurations, and decision rationales for future reference.

- Identify potential risks related to historian or OT system implementations and establish mitigation strategies to ensure business continuity.

Vendor and Technology Management

- Engage with vendors to evaluate and implement OT and historian solutions, ensuring they meet business requirements and comply with industry standards.

- Continuously monitor and assess the performance of systems, proposing improvements and leading system upgrades when necessary.

Qualifications and Skills

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Control and Instrumentation Engineering, or a related field.

- 8+ years of experience in OT systems and IT architecture roles.

- Industrial Automation: Extensive experience with automation systems, OT platforms, historian systems, and cloud platforms.

- Proven ability to lead projects involving OT system selection, infrastructure setup, and data integration.

- Strong understanding of data governance, security protocols, and retention policies in the context of OT systems.

- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for various audiences.
