About Shell Business Operations: The aim of the Shell Business Operations, Chennai is to provide the Group with operational excellence through highlighting and utilizing process improvements and functional efficiencies as well as by leveraging economies of scale. Currently, the Chennai centre provides a wide range of finance, accounting and business services to Shell operating companies across several business sectors globally.

Set up in September 2007, the Chennai centre has grown rapidly and now, in its fourth year of operations, it has crossed the 1600 staff mark. The centre is located in the RMZ Millennia Business Park, where the Shell campus is a LEED Platinum building with world class infrastructure. The business is expected to grow further over the next two years and infrastructural additions to support this have been planned.

The main focus in Chennai is on Finance Operations which supports delivery of the global Finance functional plan. There is also a Downstream India Customer Services Team that handles lubricant depot ordering within the country. The Shell Business Operations (SBO Team) manages the centre facilities and supports business partners operations on site. There is a strong focus at SBO on safety & well being of staff and on its three core values: Compliance, Intervention & Respect.

Job Title : Price Risk Analyst

Department : Finance

Location : Chennai

Summary:

The Price Risk group are a key part of the Shell Trading control framework. The team provide daily P&L reporting, mandate review and modelling analysis for each of the major trading books.

Individuals are sought who would like to grow within the Oil trading and market risk area, leveraging this role to gain a broad understanding of reporting and pricing activities within the Shell Trading network.

Principal Tasks:

- Provide strategy based P&L commentary, demonstrating a commercial understanding of the business.

- Leverage market risk modelling practices including Value at Risk, Stress Testing, Options Analytics.

- Liaise with business users and technical support to identify, analyse and resolve application issues.

- Ensure activities are carried out with safety awareness and are performed in compliance with external regulation, the Shell Control Framework, SOX and Financial Reporting requirements and Shell Trading mandate and policies.

- Assist with the daily production of daily Global P/L and exposure reporting.

- Monitor exposure limits daily within the trading control framework and manual of authorities (MOA)

- Provide ad hoc analysis by running queries off the Trading Risk Databases

- Understand trading account structure and exposures and P&L generated by the transaction types in the book

Special Challenges:

- A key challenge is on maintaining quality relationships and engagements with traders and other key business stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate data.

- Understanding the numbers and convincingly explaining the story behind them demonstrating and appreciation for trading strategies and risk payoffs.

- Exploring opportunities to continuously improve tools and process.

- With Price Risk being a new group in Shell Business Operations Chennai, the candidate is asked to be flexible in terms of work scope in the knowledge that the role will become increasingly challenging and in depth with every new activity rolled out.

- The successful candidate should be motivated to 'dig into conflicting data' and resolve issues while considering the impact upon the overall business.

Experience and Qualifications required:

- 4-10 years of experience in Finance.

- Chartered Accountants or MBAs in finance preferred.

- The ideal candidate will be highly numerate, logical, have the ability to prioritize and multi-task, and be comfortable working in teams.

- A good understanding of Oil Markets business would be valuable as would knowledge of trading management information systems.

- Market Risk management knowledge or experience would be a strong plus.
