Job Purpose :

- To protect the Company by ensuring effective, comprehensive handling, tracking and closure of all litigations, instituted against/ by the company.

- To safeguard the interest of the Company by ensuring timely intervention, closure of legal notices, raised against/ by the company, by informed, well-reasoned replies.

- Ensure the compliance of legal Metrology and food safety law and its packaging regulations for artworks / labels of Private Brand products, sometimes supplier brand also to reduce the risk of fine imposition on the Company and to reduce the risk of litigation which might get started in case of non-compliance happens.

- Ensure self-managed private brand supplier base through supplier education and development support, by up-gradation to the expected compliance norms.

- To ensure that various mailers, newspaper advertisement, leaflets, flyers etc. are as per law in order to protect the brand image/reputation of the Company and reduce the risk of monetary fine which may be imposed in case on non-compliance of law.

Principle Accountability :

Litigation portfolio : (End to end handling of Labour, Consumer, Civil, Criminal, Food, Legal Metrology, Miscellaneous Cases)

- To do extensive research, draft comprehensive pleadings/defence for the company, provide effective arguments and counter arguments or prefer appeal to seek the favourable judgement.

- To maintain the update tracker of all litigations.

- Constant follow ups with our external counsels/ law firms to keep a tab on the actions undertaken by them.

- Support various cross functions to resolve various legal issues in order to support and help the business to take more compliant decision.

- Hiring of local advocates in various cities of India wherever the possibility of litigation seems.

Notice Portfolio : (End to end handling of Labour, Consumer, Civil, Criminal, Food, Legal Metrology, Pollution, Miscellaneous Notices) - To initiate as well as countering or vetting of notices raised by or against the company respectively by private parties or government bodies.

- To undertake resolution through informed legal advisory capabilities, extensive research, drafting of comprehensive notices or reply to notices on behalf of the company and timely delivery of the same to ensure risk mitigation.

Labelling : (Approval for label declaration of food and non- food products, newspaper advertisements, mailers etc. and Advisory on miscellaneous queries and issues)

- To advise and approve the declarations printed on artwork label of food and non-food products, mandated by the applicable legislation, along with the best practices to be followed.

- Primarily approving the labels of private brands. On specific requests by concerned buyers, also check the label of supplier brand products and advise accordingly.

- To give legal advice and approval on text and content of newspaper advertisement, leaflets, flyers etc. undertaken by the marketing team.

- to give accurate advice on packaging laws, various mailers, newspaper advertisement, leaflets, flyers etc. in order to protect the brand image/reputation of the Company

Advisory :

- Advisory on miscellaneous queries and issues

- To give informed advisory on various aspects and queries on: a) Labelling and Packaging Laws b) Food Laws c) Legal Metrology: Declarations, standard unit of measurements, standards of weights d) Pollution/ Plastic bags usage/ selling

General/ Miscellaneous :

- To undertake resolution through informed legal advisory capabilities, extensive research, drafting of comprehensive notices or reply to notices on behalf of the company and timely delivery of the same to ensure risk mitigation

- In house research on miscellaneous queries and issues raised by the concerned department

Major Challenges :

- To hire or appoint lawyers on remote locations as per FCPA process where we do not have lawyers on our panel.

- To protect the interest of the Company especially in Legal Metrology matters.

- To manage and ensure the labels and artworks of Private Brands in accordance with compliance of food safety and legal metrology law and its packaging regulations.

- Support to business in respect to multiple queries for food, non-food, imported items and various others as pollution and plastic bags usage and selling.

Key Decisions :

- Legal drafting (written statement and reply to notices)

- Artworks and queries for Private Brand as well as Supplier brand products.

Skills And Knowledge :

Educational Qualifications : L.L.B.

Relevant Experience :

- 6-10 years - around 3-4 years- experience in FMCG/retail Company desirable
