Assignment Brief:
Position Title - Senior Manager / DGM - Industrial Relations
Location Kharagpur (2.5 hrs from Kolkata)
Reporting to CHRO/GM HR
Team Size 5 to 7 people
- Nature of Work Monday to Saturday, regular work from the Kharagpur office
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Industrial Relations Management
- Develop and implement comprehensive strategies to maintain positive industrial relations across all locations.
- Build strong relationships with labour unions representing blue-collar staff, addressing their concerns, and negotiating Long Term Settlements.
- Establish a network of on-ground contacts to gather intelligence and proactively resolve potential industrial relations issues.
- Ensure strict adherence to national and regional labour laws and regulations.
- Regularly review employee relations concerns to identify and resolve them.
- Dispute Resolution
- Lead and manage the resolution of industrial disputes in collaboration with legal and HR teams.
- Liaise with police and other government departments when necessary.
- Implement effective conflict resolution mechanisms to prevent and address workplace issues.
- Policy Development
- Contribute to the development and ongoing improvement of HR policies on industrial relations.
- Regularly review and update policies to reflect evolving legal and organisational requirements.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders, including HR, legal, and senior leadership, to ensure a unified approach to industrial relations.
- Build strong and collaborative relationships with external stakeholders, such as labour unions and government authorities.
- Employee Communication
- Develop and execute clear communication strategies to keep employees informed about company policies, changes, and employee relations initiatives.
- Foster a culture of open communication and transparency within the workforce.
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Degree in Human Resource Management (HRM), or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in industrial relations, ideally within large, multi-location organisations with a significant unionised workforce.
- Proven track record of independently resolving industrial relations issues within tight deadlines.
- Deep understanding of Indian labour laws and regulations.
- Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
- Exceptional organisational and leadership skills.
- Multi-lingual proficiency in English and Hindi.
Qualifications and Work Experience:
- Experience working in the manufacturing or steel industry is a strong plus.
- Proven ability to manage complex industrial relations issues and navigate sensitive situations.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex legal documents.
- Experience implementing employee relations programs and initiatives.
- Proficiency in HR information systems is a plus.
