Opportunity with US based MNC in the ecommerce business.
Looking for a talented lawyer to fill the position of Sr Corporate Counsel to support our Wholesale business in India. This position based in Bangalore and reports into the Director and Head of Legal for India and will focus on the following:
- Managing and coordinating all legal and compliance matters relating to the Wholesale business. Providing proactive legal support on a wide range of activities in all areas of the business including: B2B sales, franchising, licensing/IP, distribution, purchasing, store leases, e-commerce for wholesale, IT, and some corporate housekeeping.
- Setting priorities and judging what can be handled internally or by outside counsel. Managing outside counsel.
- Working closely with colleagues (and shareholders, consultants and outside counsel as appropriate) on negotiating, drafting and/or reviewing of documents.
- Covering other significant corporate matters including and not limited to secretarial support to the wholesale business.
This is a senior level position and the candidate is expected to provide strategic direction on business models and regulatory requirements. The candidate will have primary transactional drafting and negotiation responsibilities on contracts with multiple vendors and provide ongoing legal counseling and contract interpretation for senior executives and other business team members. These transactions range from standard contracts to complex, high-dollar-value agreements.
The candidate also will be expected to participate in other legal projects as directed, including the administration and resolution of legal issues that arise in existing commercial relationships and handling pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries. The candidate should have a thorough knowledge of inter-state regulatory issues and should be able to work closely with the business team to identify locations for setting up the wholesale business in India. The candidate is expected to maintain excellent relationships with his clients in the Wholesale team and win their trust and at the same time, he should work closely with the US based teams to help roll out initiatives in India in line with US programs and policies.
The successful candidate will have excellent negotiation skills, possess excellent communication skills and have a reputation for being a valued partner to business clients. He or she will be a logical and quick thinker, with a clear and concise communicator style; he or she will be able to simply complex matters and tailor their communication style to their audience; and he or she will possess the gravitas/confidence/presence required to be a respected leader amongst the Indian Senior Wholesale Operations Management teams.
The successful candidate will be willing to take risks backed by sound judgement and risk analysis and be perpetually seeking ways to innovate within the business to improve results and customer experience.
He or she will have demonstrated success at developing, executing or changing a vision or strategy and delivering the right communication throughout the organization working with corporate partners. He or she will have experience at building lasting and sustainable relationships with counterparts throughout the organization, be known for displaying the highest level of integrity and for inspiring trust by his or her team, peers and leadership.
Basic Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will will have a strong reputation as a successful advisor to clients on wholesale matters. He or she will preferably have 15 to 20 years of post-qualification experience, ideally both as in house counsel of a large wholesale company and as outside counsel advising large companies on B2B transactions.
Preferred Qualifications
A LLB degree is a must while a LLM degree and a CS qualification is desirable.
