Senior Associate (AVP) - Financial Modelling
The following position is for one of our top clients, a leading global investment bank's Investment Research Centre of Excellence based in Mumbai.

Role and Responsibilities
- The Associate - Modelling will report to one of the above mentioned Sector heads and will work with multiple onshore analysts across regions to deliver short to medium term research projects; focusing on modelling and accounting requirements of research.
- The Mumbai team will work towards coverage of companies in the Consumer OR Natural Resources and Climate Tech OR Industrial Tech and Mobility sector by extending coverage and developing best in class differentiated research on the street.
As part of the Sector, the modelling associate will work towards this goal by developing comprehensive models on the market, industry as well as stocks in the sector and in-depth analysis of company's financials for deeper insights. The associate will work closely with associates having skillsets in data analytics, coverage support and research preparation for high quality deliverables from the Mumbai office.
Types of projects / tasks may include, but are not limited to:
- Creation and maintenance of excel models on industry sub-sectors, companies under coverage and companies for new initiations.
- Review of the integrity and completeness of existing company financial models.
- Design, update and build new proprietary sector specific financial models taking into account regional differences.
- Linking these models to Citi proprietary database.
- Enhance the functionalities of the existing and new models using modelling best practices and Analysis Tool Pak (consistent linking, scenario building, pivot tables, dynamic charts and reports)
- Conduct rigorous due diligence on company's financials esp. looking into accounting treatment for leases, pensions, depreciation and amortization, M&A / LBO situations, Intangibles such as goodwill accounting).
- Work with Global Sector Head to develop accounting specific thematic notes.
- Supporting accounting specific client requests
Education
Degree from a premier academic institution, Chartered Accountant (preferably from Big Four Accounting Firms). CA Rank holder / CFA Certification preferred.
Experience:
3-5 years of experience in financial due diligence, audit or investment research. Demonstrated experience in accounting specific projects. Added experience in Equities Research and/or Advanced Excel is preferred. Programming knowledge (Python) is desirable.
Skills:
- Strong accounting expertise (Depreciation and Amortization, M&A, Intangibles, Pensions, Leases), financial analysis, valuation techniques and modeling skills.
- Strong working knowledge of Advanced Excel (Pivots, Scenario building). Good data management and analysis skills and a high degree of comfort with Excel; should be comfortable in maintaining and updating databases.
- Having programming skillsets (such as Python) for scaling up to develop predictive / advanced analytics models will be advantageous.
- Sector-specific (Tobacco, Beverages, Consumer Staples, Consumer Discretionary, Luxury Goods and Retail sectors) modeling knowledge highly desirable.
- Ability to source and/or verify financial data from and navigate company financial statements or company websites.
- Familiarity with research databases such as Bloomberg, Refinitiv, Factset, Nielsen, Eviews, Stata, Haver, Macrobond
- Strong interpersonal skills for dealing with companies and overseas colleagues.
- Good writing skills (good at structuring the report and articulating the key findings); ability to synthesize ideas in clear, logical written English.
- Excellent verbal, comprehension and written communication skills with the ability to clearly and precisely summarize issues.
- Ability to work under time constraints, handling multiple priorities, with minimal supervision, and in a team environment.
- The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, possess strong organizational skills and a can do attitude willing to take on responsibility at an early stage.
