Job Purpose:

The Research Head for Sell-Side will be responsible for leading the research team in generating investment ideas and research reports, managing client relationships, and driving institutional equity sales. This role involves overseeing the preparation of detailed financial models, sector and stock analysis, and ensuring effective communication with clients, sales traders, and the sales team about the stocks under coverage.

Major Accountabilities:

Leadership and Team Management:

- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of equity research analysts.

- Ensure the team maintains a high standard of research output.

- Foster a collaborative and productive team environment.

Financial Modeling and Analysis:

- Oversee the creation of advanced financial models including forecasted P&L, BS, and CF statements, DCF, and relative valuation analysis.

- Ensure thorough due diligence and comprehensive understanding of tracked sectors and stocks.

Research and Investment Thesis:

- Supervise the preparation of investment theses for stocks under coverage.

- Guide sector research and the screening for potential investment ideas using a mix of valuation, industry research, and preparation of company profiles.

- Oversee the preparation of investment pitches and presentations to the investment team.

Client Interaction and Relationship Management:

- Build and maintain strong relationships with institutional clients.

- Understand client needs and communicate effectively with the research and sales teams.

- Present research findings and investment ideas to clients and manage their queries.

Collaboration and Idea Generation:

- Work closely with sales traders and the sales team to identify and recommend investment ideas.

- Evaluate stocks through a hybrid approach of top-down and bottom-up research.

- Generate new actionable ideas throughout the year and present these ideas with conviction to clients and the team.

Database Management and Reporting:

- Oversee the management of databases, development of cash-flow/surveillance models, and use of third-party wrapper libraries.

- Ensure regular updating of the model stock universe and generation of thematic ideas and reports based on economic events.

Key Performance Indicators:

- Number of actionable investment ideas generated.

- Quality and impact of research reports.

- Client satisfaction and feedback.

- ROI and alpha earned over appropriate benchmarks.

- Timely and effective delivery of key research activities.

- Successful relationship building with clients, sell-side analysts, and industry experts.

Ideal Background:

Educational Qualification:

CA/CFA/MBA (Tier 1 institute preferred) with 10+ years of total experience and 5+ years of post-qualification experience in institutional equity selling and research.

Experience:

- Proven experience in leading a research team in institutional equity selling.

- Strong understanding and analysis of annual reports, financial statements, and call transcripts.

- Advanced financial modeling skills with extensive experience in using financial tools like Factset, Bloomberg, and Captilline.

- Experience in client relationship management and institutional equity sales.
