- To assist the Local Compliance Officer (LCO) discharge his/her accountabilities as set out in the Compliance Officer Handbook by proactively assisting management in identifying and containing research related compliance risk, monitoring, reporting and certification, fostering a compliance culture and optimizing relations with regulators.
- Review compliance of Bangalore research team with the Global Research Manual.
- To manage the CIBM Research Compliance function in Bangalore, to ensure that it is properly established and effective, and to develop and promulgate consistent compliance policies and procedures.
- Acquire a working knowledge of the legal and regulatory requirements applying to Global Service Centres (GSCs).
- To contribute (where appropriate) to the regulatory training programme for Corporate and Investment Banking and Markets (CIBM) staff in GSC Bangalore
- To assist with investigations into research related breaches, potential breaches or regulatory issues when considered necessary.
- To maintain XYZ internal control standards, including the timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
- To advise on and respond to queries on policy, and to promote observance of policies.
- To maintain a close relationship with Compliance and Control colleagues in London to ensure all global policies are properly instituted in Bangalore with appropriate modifications as appropriate.
- To gate-keep communications between Research personnel and Bankers in the Global Banking team to ensure compliance with guidelines on contact between analysts and bankers.
- To work with Research Management to ensure analysts do not pass inappropriate information to Sales personnel globally.
- To participate in regular global Research Control calls in which new developments and policies are discussed.
- To maintain the list of personal account (PA) holdings and to ensure that appropriate action is taken to disclose those holdings or divest of them.
- Maintain XYZ internal control standards, including the timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators
- Need to implement the Group Compliance Policy, as applicable to their role.
- Need to be aware of the Operational Risk scenario associated with their role, and to ensure that all actions during their employment with XYZ take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring.
- Assist regional/global research compliance teams wherever required in their day to day functioning and in delivering various tasks on projects and new developments.
- Support overall the research function at Indian Offshore Centre (IOC), Bengaluru by performing various tasks including the below mentioned:
a) Advise on and respond to queries on policy, and to promote observance of policies
b) Implementing and monitoring IOC control framework for interaction between IOC and GSC, conducting regular checks listed therein.
c) Conducting periodic reviews as mentioned in the IOC control framework
d) Monitor folder access of GSC staff identified to work with IOC analysts on a quarterly basis
e) To work on Local Office Checklist for IOC at periodic intervals.
f) Escalation of any breeches observed.
g) To assist with investigations into research related breaches, potential breaches or issues when considered necessary
h) Preparation and submission of periodic MI on IOC.
i) To execute other tasks related to Research function as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications
Must have a good first degree and preferably a legal qualification or CA/CS/MBA(Risk Management)
Skills/Experience
- Must have a minimum of 7 year's experience in a legal, compliance, audit or risk-management role.
- Experience dealing with core Research Compliance activities including standards for content, analyst conduct and an understanding of conflicts of interest surrounding the interaction of different businesses with research analysts.
- Understanding of the structure of research and experience with reviewing research reports for conflict of interest.
- Possesses leadership qualities and is a strategic thinker.
- Excellent communication and inter-personal skills, with experience dealing with employees at all levels and across country/regional borders, including the capacity to articulate the case for policy changes.
- Experience dealing with regulatory and internal control matters.
- Experience interpreting and analyzing a large volume of information and/or data and providing a succinct summary for management.
- Ability to lead change and influence Compliance colleagues to embrace new approaches for the production and review of research and other written materials.
- Ideally, should have some knowledge of financial markets
