Job Title Assistant Manager - UK Financial Accounting
Reports to Deputy Manager - UK Financial Accounting
Scope of Role : Prudential UK
Business Area : Finance
Key departments / areas of responsibility : Financial, statutory and regulatory reporting
Overall Job Purpose :
Preparing financial information for inclusion in accounts and returns to meet accounting, regulatory and statutory requirements.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities :
- Production of monthly financial accounts.
- Ensure complete and accurate posting of transactions to the general ledger and the related accounting systems.
- Month end journals for accruals and recharges
- Scrutiny of expenses and investigation of variances. Collect substantive evidence to support the variance
- Managing the workflow for the approval of invoices before being sent for payment
- Provide clarifications / information to auditors on Financial Information.
- Ensure operation of agreed financial controls including all relevant reconciliations in accordance with SOX requirements.
- Produce information for tax, statutory and regulatory reporting.
- Keep up to date with reporting standards development, covering UKGAAP.
- Plan and schedule work to meet deliverable time lines
- Co-ordinate and monitor process improvement initiatives
- To demonstrate a positive risk, compliance and control culture through the identification, assessment, monitoring and management of risks and issues within the business area, alongside ensuring timely and appropriate resolution of control weaknesses, actions and failures that arise

Internal :
Group Tax - with tax managers to co-ordinate production of data
- Risk Management to ensure regulatory requirements are met.
Internal Audit - Senior Auditors - Providing feed back on audit findings, implementing recommendations etc. Finance Systems applications support, Management Accounting - accruals

Competence / Knowledge / Skills required :
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: (KEY)
- Technical accounting knowledge - IFRS.
- Ability to monitor a SOX compliant control process.
- Excellent knowledge of Excel (advanced) and PeopleSoft.
- Strong communication skills, both oral & written
- Ability to communicate at all levels within the organisation & externally.
- Time Management and Workload Planning Skills
- Good interpersonal skills.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS (DESIRABLE) :
- Knowledge of Word and Powerpoint
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY :
- Qualified accountant with post qualification experience / graduate or post graduate with commerce background
EXPERIENCE :
- Qualified Accountant - 4 to 5 years post qualification experience
- Graduate/Post Graduate - 8 to 9 years relevant experience
