Job Title: Project Manager

Our client organization, part of a dynamic and diversified industrial group, is seeking a seasoned Project Manager to lead greenfield projects within the industries sector in Central Africa. Role Summary:
The Project Manager will play a critical role in the planning, execution, and successful delivery of industrial projects, focusing on technical and commercial outcomes. This position requires robust project management skills, a strong engineering foundation, and hands-on experience in milestone tracking, vendor development, and onsite project supervision. The ideal candidate will be a strategic planner, problem-solver, and effective communicator capable of driving complex projects from inception to completion.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning and Scheduling
- Develop comprehensive project plans, defining scope, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
- Utilize project management tools (e.g., MS Projects) to track activities, monitor milestones, and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
Resource and Budget Management
- Oversee project budgets, monitor expenses, and implement cost-saving strategies to meet financial targets.
- Ensure optimal resource allocation, utilizing materials, labor, and equipment efficiently to support project objectives.
Technical and Commercial Oversight
- Manage technical and commercial aspects of the project, ensuring project outcomes meet both engineering and business standards.
- Uphold quality by aligning with engineering specifications and regulatory requirements, with a focus on delivering excellence.
Onsite Project Supervision and Execution
- Conduct regular onsite inspections to assess project progress, quality, and timeline adherence.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal teams to resolve issues and maintain operational continuity.
Vendor Development and Management
- Identify, develop, and sustain relationships with vendors to secure quality materials and services.
- Lead contract negotiations and monitor vendor performance to maintain project timelines and quality benchmarks.
Risk Management and Problem Solving
- Proactively identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions.
- Address and resolve issues swiftly to keep the project on track and avoid costly delays.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Implement and uphold quality assurance protocols, ensuring project work adheres to industry and regulatory standards.
- Enforce safety and compliance measures to maintain a secure working environment for all personnel.
Stakeholder Communication and Reporting
- Provide transparent, regular updates to stakeholders, delivering insights on project status, challenges, and progress.
- Prepare comprehensive reports outlining project performance, budgetary aspects, and critical milestones achieved.
Project Closure and Handover
- Lead the technical and commercial aspects of project closure, ensuring all objectives and requirements are met.
- Document project outcomes, prepare closure reports, and facilitate a smooth transition for operational continuity.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Timeliness: Adherence to project timelines and milestones.
- Budget Control: Effective management of project expenses within allocated budgets.
- Quality Assurance: Compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Vendor Performance: Successful partnerships with vendors that meet project specifications.
- Stakeholder Satisfaction: Maintaining clear communication and delivering on project promises.
Role Objectives:
- Primary/Short-term: Initiate project planning, secure vendors, track project milestones, and ensure budget alignment.
- Secondary/Long-term: Implement lean processes, foster advanced vendor relationships, ensure quality and risk management, and drive continuous process improvement.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience in project management, with greenfield projects experience. Overseas project experience, particularly in Africa, is preferred.
- Age: Ideally between 40 to 45 years old.
- Industry Preference: Experience in sectors like paints, food processing, construction chemicals, plastics, or home appliances is desirable.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., MS Projects), expertise in lean factory design, and knowledge of engineering disciplines including electrical, civil, mechanical, and electronics.
