Main Responsibilities
- Programme management; strengthening and management of a network on rainfed agriculture
- Policy influencing
- Capacity building of partner organizations;
- Development of relevant multi-actor initiatives/programmesin partnership with other stakeholders;
- Fundraising;
- Contribution to Hivos’ overall organizational and policy development.
Specific Tasks
- The Programme Officer would provide content and management support, drive and leadership to one of major programs of Hivos on sustainable agriculture, manage the administrative responsibilities of the network including communications, HR and Capacity Building, Monitoring and Evaluation, fund-raising and research. The successful candidate will be expected to have the judgment to support others leading these efforts. Ideally, candidates will have led organizations or large programs, will have 8 to 10 years professional experience in some aspect of development practice or research and be willing to work with a large team of academics, practitioners and others within and outside the country. Entrepreneurial attitude is would be a definite advantage.
Qualifications
- Sound development perspective, with an understanding of the development sector in India, and excellent analytical abilities.
- Excellent knowledge of and experience in the policy areas related to agriculture, Sustainable Production, Financial Services and Business Development.
- Capacity for independent decision-making and taking end-line responsibility
- Candidates should be well organized, diligent, show initiative, be able to work under high pressure to meet deadlines, able to work as a member of a team, and be prepared to travel extensively and frequently within and outside India (including in rural areas).
- Excellent communication skills, oral and written, in English; knowledge of Hindi and Kannada/Tamil/Telugu desirable
- Planning, monitoring and evaluation skills
- Computer skills are a pre-requisite.
- Desirable: Exposure and/or work experience in rural India; specific experience with sustainable agriculture, producer organizations, cooperatives, collaborative work involving civil society, public sector, private sector and State.
- Educational qualifications: Master’s degree in Rural Management, Agriculture, Business Administration, Rural Development or equally relevant education.
Salary would be commensurate with experience and qualification of the candidate.
