Role Overview
ROLE: Production Manager
Company Name: For a leading Cement Plant Engineering MNC. (German Based)
Location: Nigeria
Role & Responsibility:
- Lead and guide all production related aspects at the plant site including safety, operations, performance, product quality and the assigned shifts (Shift Foremen and Operators)
- Manage effectively the production operation within a production function at the plant in order to ensure cost effective, timely production output of quality products
- Develop production plans and strategies to achieve plant’s objectives
- Prepare forecasts and production budgets
- Create the necessary purchasing requisitions for spare parts for the overhaul of shutdowns and normal production activities
- Coordinate the necessary materials and services for plant development related to production activities
- Manage the inventories related to the production department objectively
- Implement inventory management and control
- Safeguard an optimum level of direct material stock required for the productions process
- Ensure an optimal and energy efficient operation of the assigned grinding terminals and cement plants
- Participate in all CAPEX related meetings to provide inputs to the development of plant’s performance
- Implementing recommendations by the Process Manager to achieve optimized processes
- In charge for the achievement of key performance indicators in the field of safety, productivity, product quality and cost related agreed targets for the overall plants’ performance
- Responsible for the continuous increase of productivity and product quality
- Meeting the quality targets specified by the Quality Control Manager
- Implement quality control methodologies in the production department under the guidance and the direction of the Quality Control Manager
- Provide the necessary guidance to the Shift Foremen to carry out the required production processes
- Coordinate the production requirements to maximize the processing plant efficiencies and availability
- Assurance of an environmental compliance and clean plant operations
- Implement operational controls for a continuous optimization of the production processes
- Safeguard Human resources by adherence to Health & Safety regulations
- Manage the utilization of manpower, mobile equipment, fixed assets and contractors
- Guide operating staff by setting clear performance objectives, providing regular feedback and providing development through training
- Identify specific developmental needs and gaps of the operating staff in the department
- Train and develop the operating staff to provide specific plant knowledge
- Control and guide the daily work
- Ensure a well-organised communication of decisions and current developments
- Implement standardized reporting functions, work instructions for optimising the process chains
- Carry out annual performance reviews of employees
- Continuous reporting to the Plant Manager
- Comply with all relevant company and statutory environmental, health and safety procedures and guidelines
Requirements:
- University degree in process, mechanical or industrial engineering
- Several years’ experience in the cement industry as Production Manager
- Profound experience in leading and guiding production shifts
- Sound knowledge of production planning and the cement production process including cement chemistry and cement microscopy
- Very good understanding of safety and environmental regulations
- Strategic, organisation and planning skills
- Confident manner in dealing with operating staff
- Profound knowledge in cost controlling
- Sound communication skills, an outstanding ability to work in a team and a confident manner
- Very good MS-Office and SAP knowledge
- Business-fluent spoken and written English
- Further languages skills would be an advantage
- Willingness to travel to various locations worldwide for an extended period of time
