Job Description:

Principal Associate - Customs Litigation - Mumbai

Essentials:

- CA or LLB from a known Law School with strong academic track record.

- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal in English) and a well-rounded personality.

Experience: 5-7 years in Indirect tax in the field of Indirect Tax Litigation and Advisory

Job Profile:

- The incumbent will handle litigation engagements pertaining to Customs, Foreign Trade Policy, Special Economic Zones and related subjects.

- Briefing and assistance to seniors in appearances before different forums including tax officers, Tribunal, High Court/Supreme Court, etc.

- Drafting and reviewing legal documents such as legal opinions, replies and tax appeals to ensure consistency, clarity and keeping in mind client's interests

- Stay updated on legal development and contribute actively towards firm's initiatives for knowledge building and enhancement like case law digest, litigation meetings, article writing, assistance in conferences, chorus calls

- Actively engage in business development / practice development activities

- Customs & International trade advisory

- Partnering and Building Relationships, Lead role in client service delivery. Acts as a Trusted Business Advisor

- Participates in advising clients on strategic issues and understanding client's needs

- Plays a strong role in involving multi-disciplinary teams across the BU in providing services to important accounts

Sound commercial acumen:

- Provides a perspective on global trends, emerging industry issues and emerging practices on client assignments. Is able to proactively alert clients on business environment changes that impact (or would impact) the client

Marketing & Business Development:

- Creates and manages strong independent relationships with clients at senior positions with minimal partner involvement, expands client base with new wins and conversions (both existing and new clients) for the business unit.

- Has strong internal and external networks. These are leveraged for building and growing the firm's business

- Leads and coordinates the planning and management of medium/large assignments, independently

- Pricing, Billing & Recovery

- Maximize fee opportunities

Leadership & Team Work:

- Proactively takes a leadership role where appropriate

- Effectively manages a small team of 2-3 attorneys under the guidance of reporting partner and acts as a bridge between the team and reporting partner

- Creates a climate of high performance in the team

- Works effectively in cross service-line engagements

- Is a role model, mentor and coach

- Is approached by members of service line to assist in resolving people issues

- Is an ambassador of the firm and projects the firm's values in conduct

- Contributes to talent acquisition by tapping external networks to identify / refer high quality candidates for the business unit
