Precision Agriculture for Development - Country Director

Precision Agriculture for Development (PAD) is developing a platform to provide customized agricultural recommendations to smallholder farmers in the developing world. We develop and deliver individualized agricultural recommendations based on a combination of agricultural expertise, user feedback and machine learning. India is central to our strategic vision. The India Director will be responsible for overseeing the development, testing, refinement, and scaling of our own service, as well as forming partnerships to implement the PAD service in a variety of additional settings. Our vision is to enable poor farmers to earn more, manage or avoid risks, and farm in a more environmentally sustainable manner.

The founding team includes senior professors at Harvard University, as well as experienced management, development and technology professionals, who have decades of combined experience creating impact at scale in the developing world. PAD is a very young social enterprise headquartered in Boston, USA and currently operates in India and Kenya and explorations in Ethiopia.

Job Description :

- The Country Director will oversee operations of the organization in India including: product development, external relations, human resources, marketing, finance & admin and legal.

The Country Director will be responsible for the following tasks :

- Supervise the implementation of field operations across all projects and scoping studies in India

- Hire, train, and supervise local staff; responsibility for office and physical infrastructure

- Work with local legal counsel and ensure compliance with Indian law; develop and implement local policies and guidelines

- Build and manage relations with India partners: technology providers, agribusinesses, government, development organizations, non-profits and other service providers and implementation partners to facilitate scale-up of the PAD service

- Develop and implement sales and marketing strategies including online and offline marketing campaigns;

- Assist Boston based staff in fundraising and donor management efforts

- Take a proactive role in developing and building the mid and long term financial sustainability of PAD India

- Liaise between PAD-Global and India-based team; ensure compliance with PAD policies and support reporting to PAD internal and external stakeholders (research, program implementation, financial, other)

Desired qualifications :

- Master's degree in Business Administration, or related fields

- 3+ years of relevant experience in business development and management in multiple sectors

- Professional experience leading large projects, bringing projects to scale

- Excellent communications, written and presentation skills

- Experience working with start-ups preferred

- Experience growing a consumer-facing technology business highly desirable

- Experience in agricultural sector and/or rural developed preferred

- Excellent management and organizational skills

- Commitment to agriculture based sustainable rural development and transformation

- Fluency in English; Hindi and Gujarati preferred

- Willingness to travel
