The Trader role is responsible for managing a large section of the Rice Trading distribution business across 5-6 countries in West and Central Africa.
The Indent business imports of Rice from Asia/LATAM and selling the same to very large customers throughout Africa. The role is a combination of Physical Trading and Supply Chain role and includes business development, key account management, operations, Origin insights, Risk management and Position Management.
Key Accountability Areas:
Business Development Identify and open up new markets, winning business from new customers and increasing market share from existing customers
Key Account Management Manage price, contracts, customer service and delivery. Ensure high levels of customer engagement and issue resolution for some of the country's largest customers in a highly competitive market
Operations Manage logistics and associated challenges of imported product via port to customer warehouses without losses at different stages. Ensure controls, and costs in line to be competitive and bring efficiencies in cycle times.
Origin & Trading Insights Develop real time stakeholder knowledge to help identify growth opportunities. Understand market (S&D) and price dynamics and macroeconomic factors.
Risk Management Build perspective through synthesis of information, analysis and risk assessment. Identify and mitigate counterparty and credit risk.
Position Management Support business head to make trading and position management decisions by providing adequate and timely market information
Person Characteristics
Candidate should have proven experience in key account management, Supply Chain or Distribution role in emerging markets, be the face for this company and accountable for managing key customer accounts with some of Africa's largest customers, this may be the perfect opportunity for you!
To be successful you will:
- Have the patience to win large customers with long sales cycle times
- Be resilient and be able to overcome challenges whilst remaining calm and collected
- Have an ownership mindset! Although there are some shared common support teams, the role does not directly manage a team and is personally accountable for managing key accounts. Customer and stakeholder management must therefore be of the highest order.
- Love travelling - your customers are spread across 5-6 different countries across West and Central Africa. To this end being bilingual English / French is also advantageous (but not essential).
The role is based in the capital of Ghana, Accra. Accra has all facilities, schooling you and your family might require. Life is enjoyable, and local people are friendly.
