Positions for Strategy Consultants
Monitor Inclusive Markets India (www.mim.monitor.com), a social-mission-driven unit of Monitor Group, the global strategy consulting firm, is recruiting for its team based in Mumbai.
Founded in 2006, MIM leverages Monitor’s core consulting capabilities to catalyze market-based solutions to the problems associated with poverty. We believe that markets can and should benefit the poor. Our strength is in understanding how to make inclusive business models work, and how to get them to scale. We create impact by:
Driving new thinking for the field, and
Making change happen on the ground
Our work in driving new thinking in the field is best exemplified by our groundbreaking data-based reports on business model archetypes for Market-Based Solutions, Emerging Markets, Emerging Models (http://www.mim.monitor.com/downloads/emergingmarkets_full.pdf) and Promise to Progress. These have been widely cited in the press (e.g., FT, Economist) and used in university courses from MIT to Stanford. We have recently called out a critical gap in capital for business model pioneers, through our recent report From Blueprint to Scale. It has had a phenomenal reception, including coverage in Forbes, The Huffington Post and The Atlantic; and is being cited in the rationale for new programs launched by the likes of USAID, DFID and the World Bank. http://www.mim.monitor.com/blueprinttoscale
We work with entrepreneurs, corporate players, investors, government and other stakeholders, in order to stimulate and drive activity in various markets and make change happen. Notably, we have successfully kick-started and shaped a completely new market—quality private ownership housing for millions of slum-dwelling low-income households in India—by developing and promoting new business models, and supporting companies in implementing these solutions. Our projects ranged from advising major corporates on market entry, to incubating a new specialist finance company, to advising government on policies. By the end of 2011, over 50,000 apartments had gone on sale across India.
We are also validating a pay-per-use, decentralized water solution for urban slums. MIM assessed the need and demand for safe drinking water, and then worked with implementation partners to develop, test and refine the model. MIM plays a number of roles – supporting water solution providers keen on implementing this model, advising governments interested in facilitating it, and informing stakeholders who may see value in supporting it.
- Successful candidates will be joining a small but dynamic team with a global outlook combined with local knowledge and experience. Team members come from a wide variety of backgrounds—from Ivy League and Oxbridge to IIT, urban planning to consulting, commercial startups to microfinance institutions—but all have a strong commitment to and passion for social change.
