This team is working on developing online products from scratch and was called the App-Experiences team, now known as AMP (Apps, Media and Publishing). A start-up product team within Microsoft R&D, AMP is building low latency, online consumer products for the PC, tablet, phone and X-Box. Though only about 2 years old, the team has established its mark on the product map of Microsoft in a big way. Working on the cutting edge of technology, straddling complex backend algorithms, search infrastructure and complete ownership of the conceptualization, design, code and architecture of the products, the AMP team is a true startup within a large organization.
The Principal GPM role would include flavours of market research, product ideation, monetization, product road mapping, analytics and understanding of the technical architecture of the product. It would also require the incumbent to work closely with the core developers and UX team, writing tech specs and driving the entire product agenda. In a nutshell, the role is that of a mini CEO of a startup, where the incumbent would dabble in multiple things and use imagination and creativity to break the rut of products that consumers get exposed to everyday. This is a leadership role, which would be part of the core leadership team of this group.
Requirements for the role:
- Ability to think through different user scenarios and compete products to ideate and build a differentiated product
- Track record of product managing large scale online consumer products. Experience of building a product from scratch in a startup would be highly valued.
- 14+ years of experience in building software products/services, preferably in the consumer online domain
- Bachelor's in Computer Science + MBA preferred
