Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Location: Mumbai, India

Background:

MicroEnergy Credits is a financial intermediary that connects financial institutions to the carbon markets when they lend for clean energy. MEC creates a channel for low income households in developing countries to access a range of clean energy products such as solar lights, efficient stoves and water purifiers. To do this, MEC partners with financial institutions, works with them to establish a profitable clean energy lending unit, tracks the carbon credits that result when customers shift to clean energy, sells the credits on the carbon markets, and passes the revenue back to the financial institution to scale up the clean energy lending program. MEC also takes a margin on the sales price of the energy products. MEC has been in operation since 2008 and has reached over a million people with clean energy so far. Based in Seattle, MEC has operations in Mongolia, South Asia and East Africa. MEC is currently seeking a manager for its India Regional Office.

Goals:

- Grow MEC’s P&L in the subcontinent region

- Grow the number of MEC partners in the subcontinent region

- Ensure that MEC partners reach critical scale milestones in years one and two

- Ensure that MEC partners are satisfied with the support they receive from MEC services

- Manage 5-12 MEC staff based at MFIs in the region

Key responsibilities:

- Manage growth for MEC’s operations in South Asia

- Manage and grow a portfolio of MFI carbon generating partnerships

- CEO-level client relationship management with MFIs

- Manage contract signing process

- Prepare India-centric collateral for marketing discussions

- Business Unit Management

- Manage MEC P&L at the South Asia Business Unit level.

- Training:

- Manage MEC MFI-based staff to structure programs at each MFI that will take them from start to finish in meeting key milestones for clean energy scale up,

- Effectively leverage MEC’s existing experience, relationships and working documents

- Manage MEC staff based at each MFI to ensure client satisfaction and progress

- Programs include components such as:

- Prefeasibility studies

- Market research

- Business plan development

- Marketing training

- Process development/ Operations manual development

- Process improvement

- Channel management:

- Develop and implement programs to help partners scale up more quickly

- Technology: train and monitor use of MEC’s carbon technology

- Carbon certification:

- Hold stakeholder meetings for carbon compliance

- Coordinate collection of baseline data as needed

- Public Relations:

- Represent MEC at conferences

- Hold press events

- Contribute to MEC blog and photos

- Stakeholder relations: Work with partners including

- Investors

- Carbon Purchasers

- Clean energy manufacturers and distributors

- Government agencies

Qualifications:

- Knowledge of microfinance, clean energy, the carbon markets, internet and mobile phone technology, social enterprise, Indian Subcontinent region

- Experience in microfinance

- Experience working in start ups, managing a business unit

- C-Level client relationship experience

- Strategy consulting background from top tier firm preferred

- Training, consulting and financial skill sets

- Ability to work in a decentralized, global team

- Team player, problem solver, social mission-oriented
