Application Development is an entity within McKinsey's worldwide IT organization with presence in New York and Gurgaon. The group serves the Firm's application development needs globally with the service lines: Application Development and a Survey Design Center. In addition to the internal Application Development, the recently formed System Solution Center Team works with the Client Service Teams to contribute and make an impact to the external facing IT Client engagements.

McKinsey's Application Development group builds web sites and other IT applications that support our global network of management consultants. Our goal is to provide McKinsey's business thought leaders the tools and knowledge they need as they work with clients around the globe.

Despite being part of a large, multinational organization, our group works more like a small startup company. Our development teams are small, flexible and employ agile methodologies to quickly provide our consultants with the solutions they need. We combine the latest open source technologies together with traditional Enterprise software products.

Qualified Product Owner candidate with 7+ years of experience can

i) Effectively collaborate with and manage stakeholders

ii) Align stakeholders and development teams around common measurable product goals. Continue to entice and engage business into the product development process

iii) Perform product discovery sessions to build a product backlog, envision and estimate the product, and plan incremental releases

iv) Release on-time by managing risk and planning the product construction sprint by sprint

v) Maintain a keen focus on maximizing business value and minimizing time to market

vi) Master at prioritization (applying the 80/20 rule) and work breakdown (divide and conquer rule).

vii) Collaborate with the team on an ongoing basis, guide them (e.g., by actively managing the product backlog, setting priorities, answering questions when they arise, providing feedback and signing off work result).

She or he must be a creative thinker, able to think “out of the box” to discover key ideas and design solutions. Also have the ability to develop product vision and roadmap. Creatively think about reducing ceremony and increasing throughput of the team.

At McKinsey, the product owner is responsible for demonstrating value, and determining priority. We understand that the product owner is a very critical role on an agile development team, without a strong, empowered, capable person playing this role even a talented development team can run into trouble. We aspire to build a truly 'world class' agile capability.

An ideal candidate will also have some amount of technical experience and experience with negotiation and compromise also a plus.
