Job Title :
Senior Counsel, Regulatory Affairs, Mumbai
Overview :
- Responsible for providing legal advice on all matters relevant to payment system regulation in India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka (- South Asia markets- ) and potentially other Asia Pacific countries in co-ordination with the hiring manager and engaging externally with regulators and others stakeholders.
- Provision of input and guidance to legal generalists, business unit customers, and other internal stakeholders facilitating thoughtful risk-taking and enabling Mastercard to deliver on strategy.
Role :
- Maintain awareness of all aspects of payment system regulation in India including the Payment and Settlement System Act, Foreign Exchange Management Act and related Directions and Circulars together with applicable competition law norms and provide counsel on their implications to business operations and activities.
- Draft and review communications with regulators including regulatory reporting and advocacy.
- Attend meetings and discussions with Mastercard's regulator in South Asia markets and potentially in other Asia Pacific markets and support all aspects of preparations including briefing papers, reports and responses to questions.
- Communicate actual and prospective changes in laws and regulations and collaborate in impact assessment on Mastercard's strategy and business growth.
- Evaluate the regulatory aspects of new products and services including in respect of licensing implications. Undertake the regulatory evaluation of any new licensing or registration contemplated by Mastercard.
- Engage and manage relationship with outside counsels on research and analysis relevant to the role.
- Liaise with in-country legal generalists, Mastercard public policy specialists and other internal stakeholders supporting Mastercard's business including Regional Head Office staff based in Singapore and, as required, Mastercard International Head Office staff based in the United States.
- Provide incisive, business friendly explanations and counsel and work closely with South Asian markets- senior management as business partner as part of navigating the increasingly complex regulatory context to Mastercard's business.
- Be a tough and effective advocate in representing Mastercard, protecting its interests and to enhancing the organization's brand.
- Lead relevant cross-functional initiatives as required.
All About You :
- Law Degree with an established and reputable institution.
- Significant experience in a regulatory position in a corporation.
- Track record as an advocate for corporate interests with a regulator(s).
- Experience and/or knowledge of the regulation of financial services.
- A demonstrable understanding of legal affairs relevant to technology and innovation.
