Monitoring Contractual Agreements :

- Vendor managers constantly deal with contractual agreements of securing sale tenders from their company vendors. A vendor manager is responsible for authoring contract documents including statements of work and service level exhibits.

- This function requires him to understand policies and procedures associated with purchase contracts such as indemnification and amendments. He evaluates and monitors contracts to ensure vendors comply with contractual terms and conditions.

Managing Relationships :

- Effective management of relationship with external partners is integral in ensuring continued service delivery and customer satisfaction. A vendor manager plays the role of an advocate of the vendor to the internal management of his company.

- He may adopt such strategies as vendor service offerings to develop and maintain strategic relationship with suppliers. The pricing at which the company's products and services are secured depends on the relationship built between the vendor manager and partner vendors.

Documentation :

- Successful management of a company's procurement department entails proper record keeping and documentation. A vendor manager performs this role by maintaining and reviewing documentation including records of purchase items, costs, deliveries and inventories.

- Analysis of these records helps him to determine if prices charged for products are reasonable and manageable for his company given the performance of the market. Documentation therefore helps him evaluate products and vendor performance.

Problem Resolution :

- A vendor manager is also responsible for troubleshooting all vendor problems. In other instances, he may report vendor queries such as delays in disbursement of payments to the management for corrective actions.

- Vendor managers arrange meetings with staff and vendors to discuss issues affecting the supply chain and possible measures. Such issues range from defective or unacceptable goods or services to delivery delays.

- A vendor manager ensures problem resolutions are achieved without compromising the relationship with vendors and company customers.
