Manager Valuation-Complex Securities

Role Context:
Valuation of Complex Securities, i.e. fixed income securities and structured finance products, including derivatives, options, warrants etc.Strong knowledge and experience in fixed income and structured finance valuation.
The Complex Securities Valuation team uses sophisticated techniques from financial engineering and decision analytics to assist clients in understanding and valuing financial derivatives and other complex securities and in managing risk, for financial reporting, corporate strategy, transaction support, tax and regulatory compliance. It focuses on developing innovative, reliable methodologies to fully capture the complexity of clients’ situations, which include valuation for the purposes of:
- Financial reporting
- Fairness opinions
- Advisory services in connection with acquisitions and disposals
- Dispute resolution
- Commercial and strategic decisions
- Bid defense work
- Tax purposes
The role involves leading Complex Securities support team , which will work closely with the firm's onshore Complex Securities teams, to develop and deliver aforementioned valuation solutions.
The Company works across a variety of industries, including Oil & Gas, Power & Utilities, Telecom, Hospitality, Financial Services, Entertainment, Food and Beverages, IT and Metals and Mining.
Job description:
The main objective of the role is to manage complex securities valuation engagements, develop and manage teams with skills required to support these valuation engagements, and achieve business growth by developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key business decision-makers.
The successful candidate will be required to perform extensive hands-on work as the engagements are of high complexity level and require one to produce highly analytical solutions. Hence, the span of team management, esp. in the set-up phase of the team, will be limited.
Primary responsibilities and accountabilities:
- Work on and lead several medium-to-high complexity engagements relating to complex securities valuation
- Lend specific subject matter knowledge and provide team members with accurate and useful guidance in technical areas of high risk and complexity
- Produce assignment budgets and timetables, and manage delivery against them
- Focus team on key priorities and ensure smooth service delivery within the defined competency/geographical area
- Assign people to projects based on their skills, career goals and client’s expectations
- Partner with internal and external clients to improve processes
- Work with project leaders to analyze resource needs and gaps, and devise alternative ways forward
- Generate new business opportunities by developing ideas and solutions
- Develop long-term relationships, both internally and with clients
- Responsible for goal setting, performance appraisal and professional development of counselees and the larger team
- Identify and plan for L&D needs of team members
- Be a positive leader and mentor to team members
Competencies / skills:
- In-depth understanding of financial and valuation principles
- Experience in valuing complex securities. Developing models to value a variety of financial instruments and to analyze various business situations, using option pricing theory, fixed income and structured finance models, Monte Carlo simulation, statistical analysis, optimization, decision analysis and other techniques from the financial engineering or decision sciences literature
- Well-versed with various valuation techniques and methodologies, including DCF, Purchase Price Allocation, Market Comparables etc.
- Knowledge of accounting standards, including US GAAP and IFRS, mainly in respect of their relevance to valuation
- PC proficiency, including financial engineering or statistical software package (eg. Matlab or Stata), Bloomberg, MS Excel/VBA, Word, and PowerPoint
- Advanced knowledge of using various research databases like CapitalIQ, Factset, Factiva, Thomson etc.
- Excellent analytical, project management and teamwork competencies
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven business development and marketing techniques, and ability to pursue and close business growth opportunities
The successful candidate must be committed to staying at the cutting edge of both, latest derivative valuation techniques and the financial and accounting standards that guide the use of these techniques.
Job Specification
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s in Engineering combined with an advanced degree (Masters or PGDM) in a quantitative discipline (Finance/Economic/Statistics)
- Minimum 6-7 years relevant experience in quantitative analytics/financial advisory/consulting/valuation space (preferably with one of the leading consulting firms or Big 4s)
- Experience in valuing structured finance products, including fixed income securities, options, warrants, and other derivatives, or in analyzing complex business situations using quantitative analytics
- Excellent analytical, project-management, communication, interpersonal, and teaming skills
