The McKinsey Knowledge Center, which was established in Gurgaon 11 years ago as a purely secondary research capability supporting consulting teams, has evolved into an innovative knowledge services hub and is now located in both Gurgaon and Chennai. Overview of SCM-COC:
SCM CoC is the analytical wing of SCM practice of McKinsey & Company and is looking for an experienced professional with significant experience in Supply Chain Management. The practice works on SCM related issues of McKinsey’s clients (from various industry verticals such as CPG, A&A, Basic Materials, Hi-Tech, Chemicals, Petroleum and Petrochemicals etc.). The Current team focuses on the following 3 aspects (apart from others):-
- SCM quick & deep dive diagnostic,
- Complex optimization and simulation modeling
- SCM transformation
Overview of Position:
McKinsey Knowledge Center, India is looking for a Manager with significant experience in the Supply Chain space for its Supply Chain Practice. The Manager manages people and/or processes across all areas of practice support activity and plays an active role in serving engagement teams and supporting clientele development efforts (e.g., LOP writing, negotiations)
The Manager is expected to build and manage the knowledge resource infrastructure. He/She will manage reputation building and competitive intelligence activities and will provide thought partnership to practice leaders on governance and performance issues. He/She will be accountable for managing key administrative processes (e.g., finance, client pipeline, internal communications)
The manager will spend 30-40 % of his time managing his own client stream and will dedicate the rest of the time in people leadership and knowledge development.
Responsibilities:
The primary job responsibilities for the Manager fall into the following categories: business building & strategic leadership, client interface, people development, and knowledge development. These are described in detail below.
Business building and strategic leadership:
- Help build the SCM capability by laying out the growth strategy of the group.
- Execute against the value proposition/ determined goals of the group
- Act as advocate of the group both within and outside McKinsey.
Client interface:
- Build and maintain deep client relationships for positive and lasting impact.
- Manage client project work streams.
People leadership:
- Primary responsibility is around building and managing the Supply Chain team of 15-16 members and managing the operations of the group (e.g. recruiting, staffing, professional development, etc.).
- You will develop others in the Supply Chain area of expertise via one-on-one coaching.
- You will manage and ensure the quality of deliverables from the analysts/Senior Analysts/Knowledge Specialists in your team
- As Manager, you will assist the success of the Supply Chain Practice team by building strong communities both within the practice, and by developing strong links in other units, CSS across the Firm, and external experts where appropriate.
Knowledge development:
- Possess an impressive and comprehensive knowledge base in Supply Chain area (e.g., SCM quick & deep dive diagnostic, Complex optimization and simulation modeling & SCM transformation)
- Exhibit credible, forward-looking perspective in Supply Chain, supplemented by a full command of the relevant Firm and external knowledge base.
- You will continuously integrate new knowledge into the Firm’s codified knowledge base.
- You will help in shaping the overall knowledge agenda for SCM Practice.
Knowledge & Skills Required:

We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated a strong business sense, a deep understanding & experience in SCM and strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
- Business acumen : Ease in approaching issues from a top management view and discussing them in the overall context of a business.
- Leadership : Proven leaders with the ability in inspire others, build strong relationships, and create a true followership, Results-driven achievers
- SCM expertise : Deep domain experience / expertise in SCM. He / She should have deep background in / managed the SCM function and have experience in topics of supply chain strategy and configuration, service-level management, order and demand management, production management, supply/inventory management, distribution management, manufacturing and distribution network strategy, planning processes and related IT tools
- Problem solving : Outstanding problem solving skills, including the ability to disaggregate issues, develop hypotheses, and develop actionable recommendations from data and analysis
- Communication : Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially directed to senior executive audience. Comfort with ambiguous and unstructured situations and fast changing situations, entrepreneurial in nature.
- Analytical prowess : Hands-on in conducting analyses and adept with typical analytical tools ranging from Excel to include some of the cutting edge tools like e.g. GAMS for mathematical optimization etc.
- Comfort with using Excel, Power-point
Education and Previous experience:
- Post Graduate degree in Business Administration/ any equivalent degree.
- Minimum ten years of relevant experience in the Supply Chain function
