We are currently looking to close a
Manager/Sr Manager Merchandising position with one of the topmost FMCG conglomerates in India. The position is based in Kolkata.

JOB PURPOSE:- To design, develop and source optimal merchandising solutions as determined by brand and market needs.
- achieve purchasing efficiency
- generate new options/concepts/materials and processes
- develop new vendors
- develop appropriate systems for Merchandising Function.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Ensure efficient, cost effective and timely procurement of all POP materials and other brand collaterals.
2. To provide Merchandising related assistance to Trade Marketing Function, specially in the area of permanent merchandising and fabrication and ensure greater integration with the field and Brand Marketing Function.
3. To focus/Prioritise on developments - both on production and systems, to consolidate the activities of the Merchandising Function.
4. To assimilate and acquire knowledge on materials, process and vendors to enable greater purchasing efficiency and generation of ideas/options and technology.
5. Develop Systems for -
- Effective networking with the Brand Management and Trade Marketing Functions.
- Efficient Accounting and Costing systems in tandem with Commercial/Finance Function.
- Greater agency and Merchandising Function co-ordination.
6. To understand and disseminate information of local and international trend in Merchandising and POP.
7. Ensure efficient deployment of Merchandising Department resources.
JOB REQUIREMENTS :1. To develop and help evolve the Merchandising Executive for effective and efficient handling of all order execution, in addition to assisting the Merchandising Manager in other areas.
Vendor Development :
- To develop atleast one more supplier for thermoformed products.
- To ensure three quality suppliers in all product groups (two primary and one secondary)
2. Trade Marketing Assistance / Development :
- To develop a shelving system for retail outlets.
- To improve the consistency in product display and brand communication.
- To ensure the use of POP systems by branches in order to achieve better coordination and information networks.
- To set up a forum for regular interactions and information exchange.
3. Systems :
To develop and implement systems for better controls/checks and transparency in the following areas -
- Costing systems
- Vendor profiling and rating systems
- Quality control and quantity verification systems
4. Data/Information Resource :
To acquire and disseminate information on Merchandising trends and ensure better maintenance of databases and historical records for ease of use/reference for the BMG/Merchandising Cell.
5. Costs/Expenditures :
- To ensure that prices are kept under check of paperboard items and alternative solutions found to contain escalating raw material cost.
- To reduce prices on plastics-specifically hoarding skins and thermoformed articles.
- To develop options for re-use/disposal of obsolete material.
6. Lead Times :
To ensure 90% on time positioning of all POP material placed through the indent system, as per standard lead times.
7. To conceptualise and execute prototypes of new items each of POP/merchandising in different areas of application which would help to :
- Utilise retail space better
- Reduce cost
- Add value to brand
- Be user friendly from the retailer point of view.
Primary yardstick of success would be based on value addition to the merchandising activity and would also be measurable by -
a. Feedback from Brand Management Group on quality, cost effectiveness, new options, new materials and response time.
b. New idea generated on retail space utilization.
c. Feedback from Trade Marketing on quality, service levels and cost effectiveness.
d. Accountability on systems and procedures both in terms of the merchandising activity and the financial accounting side
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION: a. Education/Qualification: Diploma or an Engineering degree
b. Suitable weightage would be given to those possessing additional relevant diploma / certifications (Materials/Merchandising/Procurement/Retail/Business Management)
WORK EXPERIENCE AND RELEVANT INDUSTRY: - 10+ years of work experience
- Experience in leading a team of at least 3
- Working in large vendor ecosystem
- Experience in retail design
- Experience in Merchandising is preferred
