Department: Quality Job Title: /Manager - Quality Control
Location: Mumbai/Pune
Educational Qualifications:
- B.E. Civil with 7-15 years of experience, Diploma in Civil Engineering with 10-18 years of experience
Reporting to: VP-Quality
Brief Purpose of this role: Driving Quality culture within the Organization and ensuring quality of end product by standardizing and controlling execution process, taking preventive & corrective actions and ensuring quality of input material.

2) PURPOSE: (A brief purpose and need of the role)
- At present there is no employee in Quality Function other than Head - Quality. Almost all sites have lot of defects and non-conformances. Regular site visit, training of site engineers/supervisors is urgently required with regard to technical aspects/Quality. The ongoing work as well as required rectification works need to be monitored very closely. So we need employees to drive Driving Quality culture within the Organization and ensuring quality of end product by standardizing and controlling execution process, taking preventive & corrective actions and ensuring quality of input material.
3) MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: (Few strong statements explaining his /her major responsibilities)
- Monitoring Quality Assurance/ Quality Control activities of different project sites (RCC as well as finishing and waterproofing activities), Site inspection, selection and testing of construction materials
- Ensuring supply of Quality Concrete by commercial RMC plants to different sites. Mix design trials and Cost optimization of concrete.
- Ensuring reduction in Non-Conformances in construction activities by improved monitoring, preventive and corrective action plan, developing and implementing improved specification, latest construction practices & technologies/ repairing technologies
- Developing and implementing Quality Documents and formats, test procedures and technical procedures / method statements and check lists for different activities at site
- Generating quality reports and rating vendor and contractor's performance with regards to quality and safety and communicate the same to concerned departments
- Ensuring effective communication and coordination with different departments and satisfaction of internal and external customers.
- Effective training of Project Managers, Site Engineers and supervisors, workmen, contractor's supervisory staff etc. and development of training modules
4) MAJOR CHALLENGES: (Major difficulties or complexity if any in job)
- Lack of good contractors and lack of supervision by contractors leads to serious defects and non-conformances - Our industry is largely dependent on semi-skilled and unskilled labourers (people who actually execute the work) and mostly they don't have requisite qualification or any formal training here in India. So making them understand about quality, safety or technicality is a big challenge. More over such work force keep on moving, so effectiveness of training is a issue.
- For ongoing projects (where contract has already been awarded), contractors will definitely be reluctant to adopt better practices which may add to their cost.
- Bigger projects (multi building projects) where multiple activities from RCC to finishing is going on parallel, keep track of every activity is a challenge.
5) KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS: (Measurable indicators for key result areas / What exactly is expected of this role)
- Reduction in non-conformance and defects at site
- Improvement in Quality Rating of site
- Customer satisfaction rating (possession)
6) DECISION MAKING: (Key decision making areas or situations)
- Concrete mix design and finalization of concrete mixes
- Auditing stagging and shuttering system and giving go ahead for concreting
- Interpretation of test results and taking final decision on acceptance of material
- Finalization of rectification procedure and material
- Debiting contractors for rectification cost of serious non-conformances/defects in consultation with project manager
7) RELATIONSHIP TO OTHER ROLES: (Relationship to other roles like finance, planning, projects, HR)
- Close relationship with project team, he/she has to work hand in hand with project team
- Relation with Procurement / Purchase team with respect to material specification, quality of incoming material, vendor rating
- Relation with contracts team for implementation of method statement/work procedures, finalization of water proofing and rectification work contractors, major third party testing contracts - Need to work closely with HR team for development of training modules and arranging technical training for site supervisory staff

10) Educational Qualifications:
- B.E. Civil with 7-15 years of experience, Diploma in Civil Engineering with 10-18 years of experience
11) Professional Experience (Current & Past):
- Must have work experience in Quality Function in Building Industry and Building Material industry either with reputed builder or contractor
- Knowledge of high performance concrete and concrete mix design
- Experience in handling different types of shuttering and staging systems and latest technologies
- Good knowledge of finishing activities and aptitude to drive quality culture and customer satisfaction
- Knowledge and experience in Quality Documentation
- Knowledge of latest construction technologies and materials
- Development of training modules and training material / literature and effective training of workmen
