Job Description
Amazon is looking for a talented, driven and experienced Category Manager to lead multiple categories within the Appliances business. It is a pivotal role that will contribute to the evolution and success of one of the fastest growing businesses in the company. The Category Manager will be responsible for managing a set of categories (including reporting, driving unit, revenue and margin growth, and executing promotions), negotiating direct relationships with key brands, driving incremental selection in the stores, and working with stakeholder teams to deliver a best-in-class customer experience that will result in category leadership in the online market segment.
We expect the Category Manager to be a passionate customer and category advocate within Amazon, with proven analytical capabilities and project management skills, extreme attention to detail, and the ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task. The Category Manager must be an effective negotiator, leader and communicator in working with some of Amazon's most important partners and vendors, as well as with internal cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a passion for retail, a high level of flexibility, commitment, and a sense of humor.
Responsibilities:
The successful Category Manager must be able to:
- Act as the - business owner- for his or her categories, possessing a complete understanding of internal and external variables that impact our business (this entails owning forecasting, monitoring, understanding and reporting on the category, along with responsibility for driving strategic projects and promotions to achieve business objectives)
- Have a thorough understanding of the industry, seasonality and global trends/events, and continually monitor competitor/industry developments
- Maximize Amazon's long-term business profitability
- Have a complete understanding of the customer needs, both existing and potential, and use that knowledge to deliver site features that provide Amazon customers with an unparalleled shopping experience
- Manage vendor relationships - manage supplier/partner contracts, manage day-to-day relationships, and negotiate and secure marketing funds
- Create business plans for new opportunities and develop and execute project plans for the launch of new features, incorporating merchandising and pricing strategies
- Coordinate cross-functional teams, and communicate with internal and external parties, while meeting tight deadlines
- Conduct financial analysis of business opportunities to meet and exceed revenue and profitability targets
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership and drive results
- Strong business judgment with a track record of successful negotiations and overall relationship management.
- Ability to think strategically and tactically, with excellent attention to detail
- Tenacity to develop ideas independently and thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment
- Proven analytical thinking, project management skills, attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills are essential
- Bachelor's degree is required with Masters preferred
The position will be based in Amazon's office in Bangalore.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree, preferably MBA
- A track record of success in past roles
- Candidate must be fluent in English
