Structural Design Lead


- The Structural Design Lead is responsible for leading the structural design for the organization's real estate projects, including both residential and commercial developments.


- This role ensures that all structures are designed to be safe, sustainable, and in compliance with regulatory standards while optimizing for cost-effectiveness and constructability.


- The Structural Design Lead works closely with the architecture, MEP, and construction teams to deliver innovative and efficient structural solutions that align with the overall project vision.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIES:

Strategic:

- Collaborate with the senior leadership to develop the organization's construction, quality, and safety philosophy based on the business context and industry best practices

- Develop and implement the structural design strategy across all projects, ensuring alignment with the organization's broader design and development objectives.

- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and project managers to integrate structural design solutions into the overall project development process.

- Stay updated on the latest structural engineering technologies and trends, driving innovation and ensuring the use of best practices in all designs.

- Ensure structural designs meet sustainability goals by incorporating energy-efficient materials, construction techniques, and structural optimization strategies.

Functional:

Structural Design & Detailing:

- Work closely with the external consultants in reviewing the structural designs, GFC drawings, for residential as well as the commercial buildings to ensure they are in alignment with the overall design as well as per applicable by-laws

- Work closely with architects, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineers to ensure structural designs integrate seamlessly with other building systems.

- Participate in design review meetings, offering input on the structural feasibility and cost implications of design changes.

Code Compliance & Safety Standards:

- Ensure that all structural designs comply with relevant local, national, and international building codes and safety regulations.

- Stay updated on evolving building standards and apply this knowledge to new projects.

Material Selection & Analysis:

- Assist in selecting appropriate construction materials, considering factors like strength, durability, and cost.

- Perform structural analysis to evaluate load-bearing capacities and ensure designs meet performance and safety standards.

Design Documentation & Communication:

- Prepare and maintain accurate design documentation, including drawings, reports, and calculations, to support project execution.

- Communicate structural design concepts and requirements clearly to construction teams, project managers, and other stakeholders.

Site Support & Coordination:

- Provide technical support during the construction phase, including resolving structural design issues that may arise on-site

- Conduct site visits to ensure construction is proceeding according to structural plans and to address any design-related challenges.

BACKGROUND, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualifications:

- Bachelor or Master's degree in, Civil Engineering

- 15 years of experience in structural design, with a focus on large-scale residential and commercial real estate projects.

- Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

- Functional Expertise: In-depth understanding of structural engineering concepts, including stress analysis, material science, and structural behavior under various conditions

- Building Codes and Standards: Thorough knowledge of national and international building codes and standards (e.g., IS codes in India) applicable to structural design and construction

- Design Software Proficiency: Proficiency in industry-standard design software, such as AutoCAD, Revit, SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD Pro, RISA, and BIM tools, for designing and modeling complex structures

- Construction Materials: Strong knowledge of the properties and applications of various construction materials, including steel, concrete, timber, and composites

- Project Management: Understanding of project management principles to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders, including design, execution, and planning

- Stakeholder Engagement: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work closely with internal teams, and external consultants
