Brief role:
The main role of the R&D department is to support the organization to maintain its competitiveness. This means keeping an eye on developing trends, and on what the competition is doing. Being the Lead for R&D, you need to look after research activities and development of knowledge-based personal care products. There is extensive research involved in improvement of existing products and to study the potential of new products (Innovation).
The research work is mainly orientated towards the need of the client & is also as per the trend in the consumer market. The R&D team is also involved in performing the stability studies of the samples submitted to the client. There is a lot of documentation involved which is as per the need of the client and as per government regulatory norms. There are constant discussions which happen with the vendors to identify newer actives for various problem solutions like hair loss, acne etc.
The team is also inspired to improve their technical knowledge & work on the soft skills like presentation etc.
Detailed responsibilities:
Sampling to the client
1. Discussion with BD team or clients to understand the project brief
2. Discussion with the procurement team/vendors to identify & arrange the appropriate raw materials which can help substantiate the product claim
3. To regularly discuss the research related activities like formulation trials, troubleshooting etc. with the team as required by the clients
4. Prototype/s development & submission to the client for evaluation
5. Re-work on the prototype/s basis the client's feedback
Stability Studies:
a. Execution of stability studies for the samples submitted to the client
b. To regularly discuss about the stability samples with the team to ensure the quality of samples submitted
c. Proper management of stability chambers, documents, SOPs, log books etc. related to the stability studies
Documentation:
1. Preparation of documents like IL, costing, TTDs etc. & their timely submission to the concerned cross functional team
2. Preparation of documents like specifications, manufacturing sheets, manufacturing procedures etc. & submission to QC/QA/Production teams for further execution of commercial batches
3. To coordinate with the procurement team to arrange necessary documents from the vendor like derived from certificate, paraben free certificate etc. as per client's requirement & prepare necessary documents as required
4. To apply for FDAs for new approved formulations and re-worked formulations
5. To cross check artworks received from BD/client to ensure the correct information on the label
Technology Transfer:
a. To ensure the proper technology transfer of the approved formulations to the production, QA & QC team for commercial batches
b. To trouble-shoot the new or on-going commercial batches to ensure proper product quality
Alternate Vendor Development:
c. To look after the development of alternate vendors for the existing RMs to mitigate the risk of on-going production
d. To coordinate with the vendors, QC & procurement team to ensure the proper development of alternate material
e. To execute the lab batches with the alternate vendor material to ensure the product quality
