The Firm
Lapis India Capital (Lapis) is a privately held investment advisor. Lapis currently provides services to SUN-Apollo India Real Estate Fund LLC and to the offshore manager of Investor India Realty Fund I LLC and Fund II LLC. These three funds raised nearly US$ 2 billion of equity between 2006-08. The funds are fully invested and several of these investments have been fully and partially divested. In addition, Lapis continues to advise global institutional investors, club/commingled, discretionary funds with respect to opportunistic investments in India real estate.
The Role :
Lapis is looking to hire a Financial Controller in its real estate private equity business who will join the team and work across activities including fair valuations, audit, accounting, tax, investor reporting, fund structuring, and help with structuring monetization of the existing portfolio. The Financial Controller will report to the CEO and MD.
Job Description :
- Working with third party property valuers to complete the year-end fair valuations of the assets
- Coordinating with Big 4 and tier 1 audit firms to complete year end statutory audit of various SPVs and funds
- Working with Big 4 accounting firm to provide annual tax accounts to the US investors
- Help organize investment committee, advisory committee and board meetings
- Organize quarterly and annual investor letter and reports
- Completing select investor information requests on a quarterly basis
- Responding to investor queries/clarifications from time to time
- Help with capital calls and distributions from time to time
- Review of exit documentation, in particular representation, warranties and tax indemnities sections
- Help with structuring the exit/monetization of assets
- Coordinate with offshore administrator, regulator, board members, etc.
- Working with external tax consultants for tax representation and refunds
- Oversee finance and accounts of the Indian advisory firm including internal and statutory audit
The candidate should be/have :
- Qualifications : B.Com. and CA (Must); MBA, M.Com. LLB and/or CS (Good to have)
- Strong communication skills both written and spoken
- 7-10 years of experience in audit/tax/investor reporting in a private equity firm, big 4/tier 1 accounting firm, remote servicing firm or a multi-national company
- Strong work ethic and high integrity
- Excellent in preparing institutional quality reports
- Ability to work with a small entrepreneurial team, flexibility and adaptability
