Legal Entity Strategy and Simplification Overview:
The Legal Entity Strategy and Simplification (LESS) team was formed under the Lead Bank Controller team in early 2015 with the following key objectives:
- Define firmwide legal entity strategy including efforts to simplify our structures and other sources of complexity
- Manage execution of specific goals and actions through a cross LOB governance framework that leverages consistent reporting and success criteria
The firm's legal entity structure has evolved as a result of a number of drivers including product permissibility, local regulation/licensing, mergers, and the facilitation of business activities. As part of the regulatory and controls agenda, the firm has established a legal entity simplification strategy to reduce unnecessary complexity and risk while also maximizing the alignment of legal entities and business lines. The development, review and execution of this strategy is managed on an end to end basis by the Legal Entity Strategy and Simplification Group, which consists of senior representatives across functions and business lines.
