Reference Data Operations is aligned to the Chief Data Office (CDO) which is responsible for improving the quality, integrity and reliability of the firm's critical data. The organization's objectives are to explain the path that critical data follows, improve data quality, reduce ambiguity and inconsistent terminology, enhance transparency, rationalize the number of replicated data assets, and improve firmwide sharing of information and best practices. The CDO serves as the governing body to create firmwide standards that drive consistent data management practices, develop technologies and processes to support data management processes, partner with lines of business and functional groups to embed data management best practices and capabilities, and ensure sustainability by refining, measuring, and improving the firm's ability to manage data.

Description of role, functions and activities

- Instrument, Pricing & Common Reference (IPC) Data is an operating unit center of excellence providing a global reference data service to multiple lines of business across J.P. Morgan as one of its three core offerings.

- Our mission is to be the centralized provider of reference data and data services to any consumer in the firm by providing high quality, timely and comprehensive data, in a controlled and standardized manner such that it reduces risk and total cost of data ownership. The integration of reference data drives consistency and accuracy of product reference data across the firm.

- The Instrument Index Calculation Agent team in Delaware is responsible for managing the data quality and reliability of market instruments across: Fixed income universe; Fixed income bonds included in the JP Morgan's global fixed income flagship benchmarks, through controlled operational processes and industry best practices.

- The team interacts daily with the Global Index Research Group, a part of the JP Morgan Corporate Investment Banking (CIB) Research, across its global footprint (in New York, London and Asia) to ensure that the index processes, requests and systems are operating efficiently.


- Functions performed by the wider team in CIB include: fixed income market research to produce robust cutting-edge benchmark products and custom solutions for institutional investors and ETF providers, across the globe; client interaction for strategic queries on index products; commercialization of index services and analytical tools to buy-side clients and vendors; implementation of new index analytics tools and platform for better client service.

Key Responsibilities and Skills:

- Manage the day-to-day activities of an operational unit or shift including supervising employees, providing support to manager(s), monitoring volume and quality of work

- Manage a range of instrument onboarding and maintenance activities

- Supervises complex requests and problem resolution including working independently with internal clients

- Liaise with vendors, technology and other operations unit to resolve issues and minimize risk

- Accountable for reference/static data integrity and developing quality control processes

- Responsible for client satisfaction

- Coaches and mentors less experienced team members

- Facilitate and present in client monthly meetings

- Escalate all issues promptly and effectively to manager

- Ad-hoc project work as directed

Qualifications

The ideal candidate would have a graduate/post-graduate degree or equivalent, and overall 6-7+ plus years professional experience with 2+ years of reference data and leading a team.

- 3-5+ years of experience in Fixed Income related roles

- Previous experience in managing teams

- Demonstrate an understanding and interest in bonds and financial markets and products

- Knowledge of industry activities - particularly corporate actions, index benchmarking and fixed income products

- Vendor knowledge, i.e. Bloomberg & Reuters

- Intermediate MS Excel skills, including pivot tables and v-look ups

- Strong analytical/problem solving skills and attention to detail

- Self-motivated and proactive with the proven ability to handle multiple deliverables concurrently to deliver high quality results in committed timeframes

- Partnership-oriented and team player with ability to communicate with all staff levels

- Ability to work independently and multi-task in a fast paced environment

- Strong data mining, problem solving and analytical skills with ability to summarize findings

- Demonstrate customer focus and follow-up skills

- Solid understanding of reference data infrastructure including repositories and maintenance is highly desirable

- This role require flexible working hours to cover early starts and/or late finishes as demanded by the business
