Plant Manager - Preforms & Closure
1. Job Overview :
Reporting to the director of operations, this position's primary responsibility is ensuring operational effectiveness to meet the expected KPI targets and manage operational processes and policies delivering on budgeted operational plan. Working and leading the site management team, this position will improve process efficiencies and performance, enabling sales growth.
2. Job Dimensions :
- The role involves leadership and management in the areas of operational performance, safety / environmental responsibility, and new product onboarding to ensure delivery of the key financial and other targets for the plant
- The scope of the role includes all operational activities associated with the management of the Plant, delivering on customer demand expectations, optimizing operational activities and talents to drive redundant cost out.
3. Principal Accountabilities :
- Provides overall leadership for the plant as head of the site management team, setting an example for others, leading the management team, setting the business priorities, providing direction, settling disputes and encouraging teamwork and plant operational performance
- Accountable for the leadership, management and performance of all operational functions, i.e. production, technical, quality, maintenance, local HR, and OHSE
- Drive cultural change necessary particularly in the areas of safety, quality and performance
- Stay focused on operational performance to deliver the business needs and growth through:
- Managing and optimizing capacity and reporting on operational bottle necks, proposing solutions for quick and long term fixes
- Ensuring quality systems are adequate to deliver on customer and regulatory specifications.
- Leading lean operations and exceptionally organized plant with optimized flow of movements and processes addressing safety and operational hazards.
- Develop and maintain systems sponsoring business growth and new product on boarding in collaboration with marketing, sales, and R&D to deliver on successful new product launch.
- Achieve the objectives laid out in the business plan, which include:
- Safety Targets related to Lost Time and Recordables
- Financial Targets: EBITDA, RONA, working capital, cash flow
- Volume growth / margin improvement, using Value+ (Manufacturing Excellence), cross functional approach
- Customer satisfaction targets based upon DIFOTIS (delivery in full on time in spec)
- Productivity Improvement targets: Waste, set up times; OEE, throughput
- Quality improvement targets: net customer rejections; commercial complaints
- Co-worker engagement: engagement survey results
- In collaboration with the Sales Director, Financial Controller and HR Manager, ensure responsible and prudent stewardship of the plant operations, operating at all times within company's Values and Finance/HR policies
- Host customer and site visits pre-commercial and leadership requests, building positive and professional relationships. Ensure any problems are resolved quickly and regular feedback from customer is received and acted upon.
- Drive continuous improvement in productivity and quality through co-worker involvement, changing methods and adoption of best practices, appropriate incentives, investment in new technology, corrective actions, etc.
- Adopt company's talent management practices to ensure all co-workers are engaged and committed, well informed, suitably skilled, developed to meet their full potential, fairly rewarded and motivated, and that all HR practices on site comply with HR policies and applicable laws.
4. Major challenges & complexities :
- Customer relationships; defend current share of MNC's and achieve volume growth initiatives
- Work in conjunction with investment strategy to increase sustainability of aging plant and processes

Internal :
- BU Leadership Team; Procurement, Sales teams, Steercom leadership; Plant Management Team; and Plant co-workers
- Partner with sister companies to facilitate / identify / adopt best practices

- Local regulatory agencies
6. Qualifications/Requirements :
Knowledge and Experience :
- Experience in Preforms & Caps is a must have
- 10+ Years of Professional work experience in Operations with proven leadership of large teams. At least two functional areas such as Technical, Engineering, Operations or Finance (at least 5 years with a manufacturing company)
- 5+ Years of Management experience
- Knowledge of manufacturing account and financials
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence people at all levels
- A service-oriented change agent with a demonstrated track record of delivering on business goals; i.e. capital installation, profitability growth, manufacturing simplification; new product development or commercialization
- Effective working with customers, suppliers, product development, sales, marketing and operations to grow and maintain the business
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and ISO
- Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills; strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage and prioritize business demands
Education and Certifications :
- Degree in Engineering, Technical, Operations, or related field.
Job Specific skills and abilities :
- Technical Expertise - industry, equipment, process, materials, measurement and analysis
- Process Management with emphasis on Lean Manufacturing concepts
- People Management with emphasis on talent assessment and development [alignment + capabilities = engagement]
