At Outsized, we match clients in financial services and management consulting to high-quality independent consultants and boutique/specialist firms for the execution of their key projects.

Our client, a global consulting firm, is engaged in a large-scale cost transformation for a leading firm in the automotive industry.

To support this initiative they are seeking an Inventory Optimisation Consultant to lead rationalisation of stores and spares management initiatives.

The ideal consultant will be a procurement or supply chain professional with hands-on experience in stores and spares rationalization, preferably from supply chain companies. They must demonstrate a proven track record in reducing inventory holding costs, optimizing spare parts management, and implementing best practices in warehouse and store operations. Expertise in sourcing strategies, supplier consolidation, and process automation will be a key differentiator.

Key Responsibilities:

- Spearhead stores and spares rationalization efforts, including inventory analysis, optimization, and reduction of excess stock across warehouses and facilities.

- Identify, evaluate, and consolidate suppliers for spare parts and store materials to streamline procurement processes and reduce costs.

- Analyze inventory data, usage patterns, and demand forecasts to minimize holding costs while ensuring availability of critical spares.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including procurement, operations, and maintenance, to design and implement efficient spares management strategies.

- Develop and implement best practices for store management, including layout optimization, stock categorization, and waste reduction.

- Conduct cost-benefit analyses and market benchmarking to ensure competitive pricing and alignment with industry standards.

- Manage supplier relationships to ensure timely delivery, quality compliance, and continuous improvement in supply chain performance.

- Provide regular performance reports, actionable insights, and updates to senior stakeholders and business leaders.

Qualifications & Skills:


- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field.

- 5 to 12 years of experience in inventory optimization, stores/spares rationalization, or procurement (flexibility of +/-1-2 years may be considered).

- Prior experience procurement/supply chain companies is highly preferred.

- Strong expertise in inventory management, spare parts optimization, and supplier consolidation across any industry.

- In-depth knowledge of sourcing strategies, warehouse/store management best practices, and supply chain dynamics.

- Proficiency in cost analysis, data-driven decision-making, and vendor management.

- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with a results-oriented mindset.

This is a 6-month (extendable) contractual opportunity based in Chennai.
