Partner Entrepreneur Role Description: Doing Development Differently
Imagine these scenarios :
- You walk into your neighborhood school. You notice the poor conditions of toilets and the delivery of corporal punishment to children within the classroom. That's our tax and cess being delivered to the most disempowered citizen at the last mile. At that moment, would you feel called to deliver a public good like education to the most marginalised-
- Your career has been a constant rise from one level to the next. Connecting the dots, you realise that it all started with a lucky toss of a coin - a chance to attend a better off school in your neighborhood. Unlike yours, future potential of millions of India's children is grim. They don- t even go to school or only go there to find an absent or failing teacher. Would you feel the urgency to take on bigger risks with your career and public purpose-
- If you have already been in similar situations and felt powerless because you didn- t know how to get started, IA is looking for you. As a partner in Policy Entrepreneurs Network (PEN) that co-creates scalable and cost effective models to India's policy implementation problems.
People, Policy and Politics Entrepreneurs Network (PEN) :
- There are serious development challenges that India is presently facing. While the problems are complex and interconnected, isolated solutions are being delivered by well-intentioned people, organizations and governments. The head of policy, heart of people, and the hands of politics rarely come together to deliver on public service outcomes.
- By creating a network of highly motivated and high-potential individuals who plan to dedicate their faculties to bridging gaps within this implementation triangle, Indus Action envisions the civil society to play an innovator and bright spot role in policy implementation, exercising their democratic rights beyond voting to making policies work for the poor and disadvantaged.
Network's First Policy Implementation venture : Project Eklavya
- As a first step towards building an inclusive India, IA has showcased a campaign model to successfully implement RTE Section 12(1)(c) at scale. From less than 3% awareness in 2014, IA has been instrumental in ensuring 100% school participation rate in Delhi. While doing this, we supported 40,000 low income families, enrolled 5500 students from all low income areas of Delhi, engaged over 1000 volunteers and partnered with 30 other organisations.
- Our social inclusion program will support 1200 school going children and their teachers to get ready for inclusive classrooms.
- The campaign kit along with the technology platform will enable a highly motivated individual to take the model to any part of India - replicating the campaign and inclusion program in their local geographical context. Indus Action is looking for 3 partner entrepreneurs this year who have the creative courage for taking on the first policy implementation challenge.
- In this period, as the campaign expands to rest of India to champion for all the 1.6 crore inclusion seats, the PEN network will evolve into a community of policy practitioners who would have had an experience in solving a real policy implementation gap of inclusive classrooms and schools.
- This success will set the network up to take on projects with similar ambitions in pressing policy areas like public health, environment, public finances etc.
Who are we looking for :
- We are looking for self starters and committed individuals who strongly resonate with the network idea, are willing to take on tough challenges head on, and stay with it for the long term to see a sustainable impact. Any typical candidate who we shortlist for interview will have the following skills.
- Vision to build a strong network organization across India
- Prior experience of setting up teams, functions and projects from scratch
- Strong skills of systems thinking to manage complexity and ambiguity on daily basis
- Ability to facilitate generative conversations with those in power and the powerless
- Ability to absorb volatility and uncertainty within and outside the organization
- Intrinsic motivation to hold and build the network through deep relationships
What will you get :
- In the beginning phase, IA will support you with coaching and mentoring for year 1. Financial risks will be completely covered for you along with the support in terms of team building, planning and government relations. You will be part of Indus Action's National Step Back where teams from all over India will come together to co create a shared vision for implementing RTE Section 12 in India. You will be required to raise your own funds for the program, build your team and create support structures for them.
- In the next 3-5 years, as we come together to create systemic impact, you will become a part of growing network of noble and trustworthy friends who are bringing the innovation and capital of private sector to solve public sector problems at scale.
- Starting with implementing RTE Section 12(1)(c), you will be part of the new network of social entrepreneurs, who have mastered the art of solving society's adaptive challenges and play an active role in building an inclusive society, where one's birthplace does not decide what one can achieve.
- The possibilities are immense and limited only by our imagination. Coming together is the first step towards creating a lasting change in India.
If this is the legacy you want to create in your lifetime, apply now.
