KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Summary - (Role Summary)
- Responsible for oversight, direction and supervision of the day-to-day operations of Indirect Tax, supporting Regional Operations in line with Service Level Agreements and IHG key objectives.
- Manage all aspects of IHG's Indirect tax management reporting AMEA Sales Tax / VAT processes delivered by India team and review saving possibilities, manage risks and increase compliance process efficiency.
- The role involves direct responsibility for the management of a regionally based team that provides accounting services and support for the regions.
- Assess Indirect Tax compliance and associated systems capabilities, identify weaknesses and implement appropriate controls, processes and procedures.
- The role is responsible for global service delivery of a financial process for AMEA region to meet IHG company objectives.
- Manage and guide urgent and strategic business requests and provide advice on system requirements to ensure full Indirect Tax compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - (Key Activities, maximum 5 activities)
- Responsible for review of team operations, specialized transactions, and service quality.
- Insure task assigned to the AMEA region per the regional responsibility matrix are completed.
- This position has significant impact in managing Indirect tax services that improve effectiveness, efficiency and controls.
- Ensure all entities (companies, branches, etc) in the AMEA regions comply with their Indirect tax obligations and optimise tax costs
- Providing support to the audit management team in relation to Indirect tax risks.
- Preparing and presenting regular Indirect tax briefings
- Timely registration for Indirect tax where appropriate
- advice with regard to the nature of Indirect tax records that must be maintained and the different remarks on your invoices to EC-customers
- Preparation and submission of Indirect tax returns, including national forms for Intra community supplies and statistic obligations.
- Manage all aspects of Indirect tax refunds and be a centre of Excellence for all Indirect tax matters.
- Direct and oversee of the preparation of timely, accurate monthly financial statements.
- Direct preparation and review of work-papers for internal / external auditors.
- Demonstrate expertise in assessing and responding to contractual, financial/accounting transactions, informational and customer service needs.
- Define, implement and monitor standards and policies to ensure adherence to GAAP, IFRS, agreed global procedures, regional business requirements, statutory governmental regulations, and SOX requirements to minimize liability and risk.
- Review process of preparing and reviewing monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Direct process to ensure proper controls are in place for the team and direct efforts to ensure team productivity is measured, scored and communicated according to standards. Oversee resolution of discrepancies and advanced systems issues.
- Maintain appropriate records suitable for research and internal or external audit in accordance with GAAP, SOX and SAS70 requirements.
- To ensure process applied by India based regional accounting teams are consistent and conform to the global strategy.
- Actively manage the business continuity and disaster recovery plans for the AMEA region.
- Coach and develop team members: hire, fire, assess, discipline, document performance, and recommend salary and classification changes.
2. REQUIRED SKILLS
- Demonstrated experience in resource management (e.g. shift and capacity planning), team performance management, recruitment and training.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of PeopleSoft or other enterprise financial systems and Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and practices as well as IFRS guidelines.
- Demonstrated project management experience in organizing, planning and executing small to mid-scale projects.
- Demonstrated experience in leading, motivating and developing people.
- Ability to competently liaise and articulate with fellow and higher levels of management, demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in working alongside a global team.
- Demonstrated proficiency in recognizing and resolving problems or inconsistencies in transactions and systems.
Qualifications -
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a relevant field of work or an equivalent combination of education and work related experience; and
- Chartered Accountant with post qualification experience of 4-6 years.
Experience -
- 5+ years progressive work related experience in accounting and finance with demonstrated proficiency in multiple disciplines/processes related to the position as well as 3-5 years managing people.
- Required a relevant working experience in taxation.
- Experience in the design and delivery of process improvements involving IT is preferable.
